Chapter 18

Nova POV
I walked into my job saying hello to everyone I saw. I didn't feel good for some reason, I felt sick. Marcy the new receptionist stopped me.
"Hey Nova."
"Hi Marcy what's up?"
"Uhm you have a client waiting in your office."
Ok." The way she spoke had me scared I hadn't had an appointment booked this early. My mind was racing as I tried to figure out who could it be. My thoughts were finally interrupted and my question was answered.
"Hey Nova long time no see."
"Amari what are you doing here? Why are you in my office? Why are you talking to me like we're cool?"
"Dang ma hi to you too. I thought you'd be happy to see the love of your life."
"Let me guess that chick Jasmine came to her senses and realized you were a dirty scum bag." I said harshly.
"No I came to my senses Nova Wright I am in love with you. And I know you love me too. I messed up but I didn't mean to hurt you."
"Look where are you going with this." I said cutting him off. "because you have 1.3 seconds to get to the point."
"Damn ma your attitude is piss poor. Carter must not be putting it down." He said laughing but compared to Amari Carter was a freaking sexpert.
"But anyway technically you're still my wife because our divorce has yet to be finalized. And we have time to work things out before it is finally over."
"Your new chick must've said deuces for you to be all in my face begging and stuff." I said laughing.
"Why you laughing?" He said acting confused.
"Karma. Now you can excuse yourself from my office, and the premises. Have a nice day Amari."
"Man fuck you that's why I don't regret cheating on your ass. and I enjoyed every second of it."
"Oh the 2 seconds it lasted, and obviously you do because you're all in my office. Begging me to help make our relationship work. You're all in your feelings, but you don't regret it. Man get your sorry ass out my office. I can't believe you brought this mess to my place of business." After he left I felt so sick that I decided to go home. I called Carter but he didn't answer so I called an uber driver. When I got home I immediately had to throw up. I was trying to figure out what i'd eaten that had me feeling so sick. When I was done I went upstairs to see Carter in bed asleep he was so cute. I got in the shower then brushed my teeth and drunk some water to settle my stomach. I put on one of Carter's t-shirts and eased into bed.
"I thought you were at work." Carter said in his sleepy voice.
"I was but lately I've been feeling sick." As soon as I said that Carter jumped up and put on shoes.
"What's wrong Carti?"
"You're pregnant. I'm going to get a test I'm going to be a dad. This is crazy."
"I'm not pregnant. I don't think so."
"You really haven't put 2 and 2 together you've been sick lately. I've had to hold your hair back. Come on now catch up." I couldn't believe I was pregnant. I immediately let tears stream down my face.
"What's wrong ma?" Carter asked.
"I'm pregnant?" I said looking dumb founded. "How? Why? I always imagined being pregnant and married. With my dream home and the perfect life not like this."
"Ma calm down. It's here now so you have to put all that aside. And focus on being the best mother you can be to our unborn child."
"I know but I didn't think it would happen so soon, but I'm glad this is happening with you." I said trying to reassure myself that everything would be fine. "Why are you laughing? Carter this is serious."
"Because this is the first time I've ever seen you unsure of yourself, and scared."
"That's not funny." I said pouting.
"Aww you're so cute. I love you Nova."
"Love you too.Now go get my damn test." I said laughing.
"You not gone keep punking me all the time."
"Boy get out your feelings and go get the test." It was so funny he was really serious. When he left I got back in bed and fell asleep. It was amazing not having to sleep next to someone. Or have someone all up under me, Trying to get some. Like no sir keep your hands, feet, and all objects to yourself.
I was awaken when I heard the bedroom door open but I didn't move I laid there until I felt a hand go over my mouth. I knew it wasn't Carter because the hand was not as soft as. I fought back as hard as I could.
"Stop fighting back before I kill your ass right now."
"What do you want with me?" I said trying to be as hard as possible, because I wasn't going to let this bus driver built dude know I was scared.
"Carter." I was confused because Carter told me he quit the game. The man eased his way on top of me trying to lift up my shirt. I looked in the doorway and saw Carter standing there telling me to be quiet. I did as I was told. Carter quickly pulled the dude from on top of me. And drug him until he was on the ground. Carter and the guy struggled for the gun. I took matters into my own hands and went and grabbed the gun that was under the hallway table. I quickly ran upstairs and took the safety off of the gun. When I got there I shot him in his arm. That's not where I was aiming but in my defense I'd never used a gun. It gave Carter enough time to get the gun and shoot him 3 times in the back. I dropped the gun I was holding and fell into tears. I ran downstairs to grab the house phone. Not realizing I was crying my eyes out. I felt an arm wrap around my waist and I immediately let myself fall into his embrace. I allowed him to pull me into his embrace and sit me down on the stairs.
"Why was he looking for you? Who was that? Carter answer me."
"Baby I wish I could but they know where I live now. You need to go. Go pack some clothes and I'm taking you to your parents house."
"I thought you quit who was that? I don't want to leave you baby. I'm not going."
"Nova go get your damn clothes now! I'm not going to argue and debate with you hurry up."
"No." I simply said I wasn't trying to hear what he had to say. If they had a problem with my man. Then they had a problem with me. I was going to stay with him no matter what so it didn't matter what he had to say.
"Nova did you hear me."
"I heard you and I didn't give a fvck what you had to say. If someone has a problem with you they have a problem with me. Now can we stop talking and figure out what we are going to do with
him?" I said nonchalantly
"Nova are you serious? You really love me tryna be my ride or die, I see you. And to answer your question I did quit the game, but there are still people out to get me for revenge. Anyway I'm going to call my old crew and get them to send clean up. So don't even worry about it." Carter told me.
"Well just know that I'm not going anywhere and I will never leave your side Carter Derek Mcallister. Now can we get out of here because I can't stand the thought of being in this house with a dead man. Especially one that almost raped me." I said choking up.
"Ma it's okay. I stopped it nothing happened. I would've never let him hurt you."
"But what if you weren't there. Then what? This 200 pound dude was on top of me and I didn't stand a chance against him." I put on tennis shoes that were at the door and a pair of shorts Carter brung me from our bedroom. I sat in the car and waited on the crew to get there, until I left. I didn't want to be there and no what they did with the body and I definitely didn't want to see it. I knew i wasn't spending the night in my house. Carter and I were just going to have to go to a hotel room. Until I got the house blessed. I sat in chili's until Carter called me.
"Hey bae." I said.
"You just don't get tired. You're acting so cool about this situation that it scares me." Carter said laughing.
"I'm fine. Anyway I'm going to get a hotel. So if you're still at home can you pack me a bag and I'll text you the address." I said with no feeling.
"Okay give me 20 minutes. Keep my side of the bed warm." he said which was so funny because he was so serious.
"I will be sure not too.And stop talking to me and hurry up so after I get out of the shower I can change clothes."
"Are you gone wait on me?" He said laughing.
"Nigga get off my phone. That's all you think about. That's why I'm pregnant now."
"You know I'm not gone keep letting you punk me. I love you though and I'm on my way chill."
"Yeah yeah they all love me that's nothing new." I said jokingly.
"Oh you feeling yourself now."
"Carter I'm hanging up now."
"No you're n-." I cut him off before he finished. I jumped in the shower washing everything off of me. What happened today brought back so many old memories. I knew I needed to tell Carter my secret, but I decided I was taking that to the grave.
