Lan Xichen

"Mr. Lan." I heard Jasmine from the other side of the door as I blankly stared at the screen in front of me. A document was open, something that I needed to get done but I was zoned out of my head to actually articulate anything.

"Come in." I call out as I shake my head and tell myself to come back to reality.

"Mr. Lan, we have some trouble." Jasmine said as she furiously walked in to my office and stood straight in front of my desk.

I let out a huge sigh and motioned for her to speak. I was already on the verge of having a headache.

"The VP, Mr. Lan Wangji, hasn't stepped a foot in office for the past week. His work is piling up and we cannot move forward with the new objectives until he signs off. We have tried to get in touch with him through his secratary, but he refuses to talk to us. So please, help the management execute the policies with no hitch by talking to your brother." Jasmine said.

Jasmine Khan, the Chief Marketing officer of the Lan group was a ferocious lady. She had climbed the corporate ladder over a period of 30 years, my aunt trusted her the most when she was the COO, the position that Wangji holds now. And that was the problem, I hadn't seen Wangji for over a week as well, in the beginning he was atleast answering the calls but now, he has completely disappeared from the face of the earth. As if I didn't have enough on my plate, dealing with my own incompetencies, I also had to look out for my grown ass brother. I don't even know what happened but I have a pretty good guess, who was the reason.

"Okay Mrs. Khan. Give me a day or two, I will try to get the documents signed from Wangji. You can be assured." I said as I crossed my arms and leant on the table.

"Thank you, Mr. Lan. Hope you have a good day." She said, turned on her heels and walked away as the sound of her heels resounded in my office.

I sat back in my chair and let out a groan.

Jiang Cheng, Wangji, the company, Jin Guangyao.

My head hurt from even thinking about it all, but my heart was heavy, because of the stunt I had pulled in the restaurant last week.

Last Week:

I walked into the restaurant with one of my school friend, he had left the country almost five years ago when he was warrented a position as the CEO of an international investment bank and today, we celebrate everything that he has achieved.

"So, how are things with A-yao? When is the wedding?" He-yi asked.

"Ah..." I said as I walked with my hands in my pockets, already exasperated about this whole conversation.

"Ah..? Man, sounds like you wanna do anything but get married." He said.

"Yeah well, let's just say sometimes we don't know what we have gotten into until it's too late." I said, throwing my head back as the waiter led us to one of the VIP spots up on the mezzanine, near the window.

The spot was great, especially where I sat down. I sat across the window while He-yi sat with the window behind him. The seating plan on the mezzanine was anything but romantic, it was a place for business mostly. In Vino Veritas, literally translated to under the influence of alcohol, was an Italian restaurant based out of Italy whose head chef was Alessia Russo. Known for robust flavours and delicate meat dishes, it was a fine dining experience wrapped in a pasta dish. We ordered some wine and Caprese bites and classic bruschetta. One would think I had no taste given the flavour profiles I chose but I didn't really care. I was here to wine and dine without having to care about the trouble that was home.
