Two hours had passed and the reunion party was still pretty much on. Surprisingly,Kate enjoyed her time there,she had been with Heather,Sean,Tyler and Richard__they talked,laughed,joke around and reminisced their high school days. The host of the party,which was Richard,made everyone play a kind of game that also required winning a price __every single students participated and some silly words and actions by the class's clowns made it more interesting.
Though the party was fun and all,Kate couldn't help but wonder if Dexter was still coming or not. Maybe he wasn't anymore __it's been hours and the party already passed it's exciting moments __the games,the emotional speech by one of the students,the session for the invited standup comedians and maybe it was the dancing that was left.
"...Is Dex still going to make it?" Sean said through a sigh as he scrolled through his phone. They were sitting at a round decorated table__Tyler,Heather,Sean and Kate. Richard had gone off to somewhere. The rest looked at Sean and Kate felt a pause in her heartbeat just at the mention of Dexter's name. They hadn't mentioned him all the while and now she was getting nervous about actually meeting him. Would she be able to face him? How would she react when she does? But he had really hurt her in the past...
"Why?" Tyler asked,leaning back against his chair and folded his arms.
"He said he's caught up in a serious traffic and....",Sean shook his head slightly as his eyes were still glued to his phone.
"Oh. Is he living that far?" Heather also asked. Kate adjusted in her seat and gently flipped her hair backwards,she was starting to feel uncomfortable.
"He just got back from Canada today and he's coming straight from the airport. He said he didn't want to miss the party". Sean replied,looking at Kate momentarily.
"Oh",Heather realized.
Kate took her purse and rose up,making them look up at her,"I have to go now. I still have some project work to finish". She smiled casually. She wasn't lying about the project work but _she didn't want to wait around and still be here when Dexter eventually arrives. She just wasn't ready to face him.
"Really? Can't you stay a little longer?" Heather asked hopefully.
"I really have to go,there's still much to do". Kate insisted. "It was really nice catching up with you guys. I'll call you later,bye". She quickly told them and then made her way out of the hall,they stared after her a little somberly.
"Thought she'd be happy to see Dex". Tyler suddenly said,Heather and Sean looked at him.
"She wanted to avoid him". Sean added. "Does she ever mentions him once in a while?" He asked Heather,who was now looking a little glum. " 'Cause,Dex talks about her all the damn time".
"No. I would have to be cautious even if I want to mention his name". Heather sighed.
"I can't believe I actually miss those two being lovebirds". Tyler said and then chuckled,looking at Sean,"We would always made fun of how cheesy they their love were".
