...that made you say "You gotta be kidding me"?

Way back in 2003, we were returning home from our first deployment to Iraq. We made it to Kuwait and were to board a civilian jet. It was a brand new 777 and the only passengers were my platoon (so around 30 guys). Very cool.

Anyway, I was among the first to get to the security station with all my gear. Yes. I said "all my gear". Everything you would expect a Ranger to carry into combat (except explosives) was still with me and everyone else who was getting on that plane. And remember, the ONLY passengers were Rangers returning from deployment.

The lady asked me for my assault pack (a medium sized backpack, for all those who aren't familiar), which I handed to her for inspection. She opens it and quickly finds this:

My Gerber knife. Well... one of them. She pulls it out and tells me I can't carry a knife on the plane. Up to this point, she had barely looked at me and I guess she was just so used to looking for these little things that she just didn't even think about the obvious stuff I was carrying. Like this:

My S.A.W.

I was baffled so I got her attention and pointed out my weapon to her. She just froze. Right about then my Platoon Leader and some civi officials came around to explain the situation. After that we all boarded with our knives and had a wonderful flight home. Still one of the funniest things that's happened to me.
