At 16.
At 16, I lost my parents in a car accident. I was just a little girl. Also, my mom had no brothers or sisters and her parents died before I was born. My father had a brother. His name was Ted. My parents had asked him years ago if he could take care of me if something happened. Ted came and was very compassionate. He later explained that he would be back for me with all my things the following Friday.
Somehow I prepared the packages. My state of mind was very fragile. I waited until Friday. I waited until I fell asleep at the airport. Ted never showed up. To this day, I've never heard from Ted again. I was not wanted. I didn't have anyone. Over the next few days, I found my way. The world can be a cruel place when you don't have a family and are still young. Now, life is fine. I teach and love my students (99% of the time), I have people who love me and puppies I love. However, somehow, I think... that deep inside, I'm still the 16-year-old waiting.
