Jack and Robin shared a confused look.

"I failed Physics," Jack said. "Dumb it down a bit,"

"In the presence of a stronger magnetic, the needle will deflect towards that power. So either there's some super big magnet around here, or..."

"There's a gate," Lucas finished.

Dustin began to explain the gate and everything began to fall into place. This gate will lead them to Vecna. This gate is the perfectly-sized key to enter Vecna's world. It would help them save both Eddie and Max.

The current of Lover's Lake glimmered in the moonlight. Eddie, Steve, and Jack placed a boat in the water, causing a loud splashing sound to echo around the wooded area. Jack felt a splatter of wetness hit his cheek as the boat was let down. He scoffed, wiping the water off his face. He backed away and helped Robin step on the boat, the girl placing her hands on Steve and Eddie's shoulders as she entered. Jack followed after, reaching for Nancy's hand and pulling her in the boat.

Eddie hopped on the boat as Steve held it in place. Dustin smiled, heading toward the motored vehicle, but was halted by Eddie's hand. "Hey, hey, hey, you trying to sink us? This thing holds four people tops, okay?"

"It's better this way, okay?" Nancy said. "You guys stay here with Max. Keep an eye out for trouble."

"You keep an eye out," Dustin mocked. "It's my goddamn theory!"

"You heard Nance," Robin remarked.

"Who put her in charge?" Dustin asked.

"I did," Robin replied.

Nancy reached out for the compass, and Dustin reluctantly gave it to her. Steve stood up, throwing the tarp at Dustin, pushed the boat out, and surreptitiously jumped into the boat, sliding into a seat beside Jack.

"You said four!" Dustin shouted.

"Sorry," Steve whispered.

Dustin flipped the boat off as Robin said, "Bedtime at 9, kiddos! Miss you already!"

The boat ride was rocky, tilting back and forth as the tide knocked against the metal. It was so tightly packed that Jack kept on brushing his shoulder with Steve's, resulting in the two blushing madly. Nancy and Robin were shining their flashlights over the illuminated body of water as Eddie steered.

Eddie looked toward Jack and Steve, smirking. "You know, I always knew there was something extremely homoerotic about the of you,"

Jack choked. "Excuse me?"

"What? You don't think I noticed all the stupid secret hand holding last year? Or when you got into aggressive fights freshman year, your crotches were especially close?" Eddie snorted. "Please, I've known about you two for years, but I knew it was official when I caught you two smooching in the Starcourt Mall parking lot last summer."

The two began to stammer, denying and shaking their heads as Eddie watched, amused.

"Don't play dumb," Eddie chuckled. "I see everything. Everything,"
