My computer dings with a message from my best friend Sara. I don't know what her real name is, I don't know where she lives. But I surely know many other things about her. I met her online 3 years ago on discord from then on we have been best friends. She also doesn't know many things about me. But she knows me as Sam or even partially the real me.
She is the only one I confessed my feelings to. Feelings I developed in the past few years for none other than my best friend Aarav. I didn't know I had feelings until the past 1 year. As we got closer my feelings for him increased over time. I love him, I really do. That is what Sara is calling wrong. Her words and I quote "You don't fall for your best friends- you only end up hurt."
Her words keep ringing in my ear. It's nothing wrong to have feelings for someone right? He is the only person I think about and talk about every freaking second. Thinking about him puts a smile on my face. The times he sent me funny videos, the times when he comes to pick me up so we can hang out together. He is the only proper friend I have in real life.
For the 400th time, I open Sara's message.
Sara- See Sam am telling for your own good.
Sam- Is it wrong to love someone Sara? You are making no sense.
Sara- Sam! It's not wrong liking someone! But have you thought about these? What if he doesn't like you? What if he already has someone else in his life?
Sam- He would have said to me if he had someone in life. He does have a few girls as his friends.
Sara- He might have not told you yet. I know you feel am going paranoid. But I don't want you to get hurt.
Sam- Ok! Fine I will take this to my death bed. I won't tell him how I feel.
Sara- You better don't, having one-sided feelings is worst in itself. Getting rejected is a whole other deal.
I don't reply to that message and left the chat there only, just then I get another message from Aarav on my phone. He is asking me to come to a movie!
We have gone to many movies together but this feels more special, I don't know whether am reading into lines or something else. I feel special. I tell him to meet me at the theater but he insists on picking me up as always. I smile like a hooligan looking at the text.
I hear a knock on my door and I know it's my mom. I shout ' It's open' and set my phone aside, while I go grab a dress to wear.
"Going out?" My mom asks with a smirk on her face. She has always shipped me and Aarav for a long time, she would practically flip out if I tell her I have feelings for him.
"Yes," I say kind of getting shy.
"Is that a blush I see?!" My mom says looking at me from the door.
"Mom!" I shout at her and turn back to look at my dresses.
"Try black you will look sexy!" My mom says winking at me leaving me speechless as usual.
"Is this how mother and daughter talk these days?" I say, obviously taking her advice and pulling out a black Kurthi with white pants.
"I don't know about others but with you, I will talk like this." She says.
I chuckle at her statement.
"Be back by 8, I don't want grandchildren yet." She tells me while I cover my face with embarrassment. I haven't even kissed anyone yet she is talking about babies. After a 15-minute bath and 10-minute dress up I hear the doorbell ring followed by my mom shouting – "Aarav is here!"
"Coming!" I reply back, checking myself in the mirror one last time before I grab my purse and practically run down the stairs.
Oh gosh! Today we are twining! He is wearing his all-time favorite black shirt with ripped jeans.
"Let's go little baby!" he chuckles as he ruffles my hair. He calls me little baby because am a lot shorter than him. But seriously he is 6 feet tall a mere 5'4 would like a baby only.
"Don't spoil my hair" I wack his hands of even though I want it there.
"I know you like it when I do that." He tells me messing up my hair again. He knows me way too well.
My mom comes back from the kitchen.
"Aarav bring her back by 8 dear, you guys have college tomorrow right?" She tells him and sees us out.
"Which movie did you book tickets for?" I ask him as we get into the car.
"That new rom-com movie you were talking about." He says. It's always been like this he remembers everything I tell him. Does sweet things for me, how would I not fall for him?
The movie goes on pretty well. We head out of the theater but Aarav stops me in my tracks.
"Properly tie your shoelace!" He says as he gets on one knee and ties it for me.
He stands up after tying the shoelace. I tell him a thank you with my brightest smile.
But suddenly his hands lift up making way to the side of my ear. He keeps inching closer and closer. I shut my eyes not knowing what is happening.
Why the hell does it feel like he is about to kiss me?!
