Lmao I should count how many times the word 'heat' is used in this chapter.

"Heat?! No, I can't possibly be in heat!" I continue to pace in front of the vampire who is sat on the end of my bed

"I'll admit that I wasn't sure if you were at first, but once I noticed the signs I realized that I had to tell you" she says

I stop pacing and turn to face the girl.

"What signs?!" I continue to freak out

She raises an eyebrow at me.

"The horniness mainly, but also the decrease in energy"

What?!

"What?!" I voice my thoughts

Harper nods her head.

"I understand, but-"

"You said that I wouldn't go into heat until a week from the- the night that I was marked," I cut her off

She nods once more.

"I was marked a day ago, Harper!" I continue to freak out loud

She tries to grab ahold of my hand, but I quickly start to pace in front of her again.

"I don't know if your body is confused because of when Karl tried to mark you weeks ago or what, but you can't just ignore this" she tells me

I scoff.

"Please! I'd rather die a week from now than let you mark me"

I am surprised when I am suddenly pulled towards her, the front of my body connecting with hers.

Due to her now standing up I have to tilt my head up to meet her eyes, her violet-blue eyes.

"Look, I know that it was wrong keeping that information from you, you didn't deserve that," she continues to hold me in her arms

"But you need to let me mark you again, before this gets even worse"

I shake my head, stepping out of her grasp.

"I- I can't,"

"You really hurt me, Harper," I tell her

"Every time I think about you I keep thinking about the fact that you might have let me die if I would have never asked you"

Harper shakes her head.

"I would have never let you die, Rosemary-" she promises

"You don't know that for sure!"

"I could die if I'm not marked again or I could die if I am marked and it goes wrong"

Harper not so slyly rolls her eyes at me.

"There only a thirty three percent chance of you dying," she says with annoyance

"There's a sixty six percent chance that you'll live,"

"I genuinely don't understand why you're being so negative about all of this"

I throw my arms up at her statement.

"Of course you don't understand, Harper, you're already dead!" I yell

"You've been dead so long that you don't understand what it's like to be alive, to have a normal human experience!" I stress

The vampire's face relaxes as she listens to me.

"I'm only eighteen, Harper!"

"Don't you understand?!"
