Your POV:

The next day, we continued to do what we always did. We'd picked up where we left off on the game we played just the night prior. In this current game, Benny was in a-

"PICKLE!!" Ham yelled as he caught the ball that Yeah-yeah had caught after Benny reached third. We watched him move back and forth between the plates. "Come on get him!!" Squints yelled as Ham and Yeah-yeah tried to get Benny out.

But, as always, Benny made it out and tagged home, leaving the others groaning and throwing their gloves down. I couldn't help but cheer on Benny, "you're gonna have to teach me that" I said to Benny who was catching is breath, "maybe one day (L/n)... if you're lucky" he said then gently tapped the brim of my hat.

As I laughed and fixed the hat that was placed on my head, I couldn't help but hear the sound of bike chains rattling as they came closer. "Oh no!!" I heard Squints yell. It was a group of boys about our age in baseball uniforms getting closer to us. I noticed the demeanor of the boys around me as they stormed up to greet these guys.

"See, it's easy when you play with a bunch a rejects and a fat kid, Rodriguez!" The main kid said, high on his bike. "Shut your mouth Philips!!" Benny yelled. "What did you say crap face?!" Ham asked, now getting heated.

"I said you shouldn't be allowed to touch a baseball!!" He said, "except for Rodriguez, you're all an insult to the game!" He said, who did this guy think he was?

"Come on!! We'll take you right here right now!" Ham yelled, "We play on a real diamond, Porter!!" Philips yelled, "you ain't good enough to lick the dirt off our cleats!"

"Shut up jerk!!" Ham yelled, "Watch it idiot!!" Philips yelled. They then went back and for trading insults, each getting much grosser than the ones before. "You bob for apples in the toilet! And you like it!!" Philips yelled, as his final insult.

"You play ball like a GIRL!!!" Ham yelled, I hit him in the back of the head, making myself noticeable. "Hey! Not cool man!" I yelled.

"Well well well, what have we here?" Philips asked leaning against the handle bars of his bike, "how desperate are you Rodriguez? Letting a girl play baseball?" I then started to get heated, I stepped forward a few paces in front of everyone.

"Listen here Philips" I said cooly crossing my arms, "if you think you're all high and mighty.. one hour... your field... let's see who plays like a girl shall we?" I asked with a smug smile, feeling my team's eyes burn the back of my head.

He scoffed at me, "Got it... bye ya buffalo butt breath!" He said as him and his team cycled away, "Yeah beat it!!" I said kicking the dirt and stirring at the ground near them. I could hear my team behind me cheering me on as I walked back with a smile.

"That was amazing!" Scotty complemented. "Yeah yeah it was!" Yeah-yeah agreed. I smiled and looked up at Benny, "you got guts" he said patting me on the shoulder. "Yeah.. hey, no slackin, we got an hour before we gotta kick these guys asses, so I say we get some practice in!" I announced. They all agreed and we went back to playing our game.

An hour later we were standing on a new field, with an actual team.. the first team we've ever played against.

"PLAYYY BAAAALL!!" I heard Ham yell from the catchers position, pulling his mask over his face, giving.. some of the best catchers commentary ever! We literally could not stop laughing.

"Alright batter... this is gonna be a short game, I gotta get home in time for lunch!" And the insults kept going...

"Ya know, if my dog were as ugly as you, I'd shave it's butt, and tell it to walk backwards"

"This is The Heater... Here it comes... strike three here we go!"

"Hey.. is that your sister out there in left field... naked?" He asked, "she's naked..."

"Shut up Porter!!" Yelled the batter, "Heyy, hey I'm just trying to have a friendly conversation" he said holding his hands up in defense. "Calm down" Ham said throwing the ball back to Kenny, "...you think she'd go out with me?"

Needless to say, we dominated that inning due to Kenny's marvelous pitching and Ham's hilarious commentary.

Then it came out turn to bat, to our luck, Ham was the first one up, "Come on show me your stuff" he taunted, "let's see what you got!" He said planting his feet. The pitcher threw him the ball, and Ham of course hit it with ease, sending it towards the outfield... out of the park.

We all applauded and cheered, next up was Bertram and DeNunez who both hit the ball with the same ease as Ham. Squints gave us that famous pointing out into center field before also slamming the ball away.

Scotty was up, which made me nervous, but he as well hit the ball with as much was as any one of us! "Yeah! Go Scotty!!" I yelled. "Aww Scotty your sister's cheerin ya on" Philips taunted. "Bite me!!" I yelled at Philips and turned my attention back to Scotty.

Then was Yeah-Yeah, Timmy, Tommy, and finally Benny, who all sent the ball where it was supposed to go!

With the bases loaded, Benny at first, and Timmy and Tommy at second and third, it was finally my turn to bat. "Go easy on her Philips!" The catcher taunted. "Nah.." I said tapping the plate with my bat then swinging it back into my hand, "gimme your best shot" I said winking at him.

He rolled his eyes, planted his feet, and wound up the pitch. I took a deep breath, my grip strength never leaving the bat. The ball hurdles towards me with great speed, although not too great, for when I swung, the ball when flying... it was going... going... gone.

I flung the bat up in the air and howled in victory as we all ran around the bases. All of the boys on the opposite team threw their hats down in defeat, baffled by what they just witnessed.

Once I got to home plate, my team came over, Benny and Bertram, being the two tallest members, hoisted my up onto their shoulders chanting my name as we saw the other team leaving their own field.

That day had been most likely one of the best days of our summer, and we knew with a solid sign like, we needed to celebrate.
