THIRY-ONE

DANI woke up to the car moving. She sat up and looked over to Robby.

"Rob? Where are we going?" Dani asked.

"To visit someone." He replied.

"Visit someone? Who are we gonna visit that isn't going to throw you in jail?" She asked.

He looked over at her. "My mom. At the rehab center."

Dani nodded. "Oh. And you trust her?"

"She's my mom. Of course I trust her."

Dani sighed.

He grabbed her hand. "It'll be okay, Dan, I promise."

"Okay."

They shared a small kiss.

"You smell bad." Dani joked.

"Yeah, you too, Alexopolous." Robby smiled before turning back to the road.

Dani smiled and looked away. It felt good to be back with Robby, but she hated that it had to be like this.

Dani began eating her sandwich quicker than ever. She hadn't had food like this in a while.

Robby was eating his slowly and telling his mother about how hard it's been.

"It's going to be okay, Robby. We'll figure this out. For you and Dani. I promise."

"Thanks, Shan." Dani muttered through a mouthful of food.

Shannon nodded and looked past Robby.

"I'll be right back, okay. Just keep eating you guys."

Dani looked over at Robby. Usually he was comforting her, but now she knew it was her turn to comfort him.

She put her sandwich down and grabbed his free hand.

"Hey. You were right. We can trust your mom. She's going to help us, okay."

Robby just nodded and stared straight ahead.

"Robby. Look at me."

He looked over at her.

"She's right. We're going to be okay. Maybe...Maybe she'll come up with a solution so we don't have to live like this."

He nodded and she cupped his cheek, caressing it with her thumb.

"Hey."

Robby and Dani looked over to see Daniel LaRusso standing there.

He sat down in the seat Shannon was previously sitting in.

"Nice cut. Did you do that?" He asked Dani.
