Her P.O.V

There in my living room stood a complete stranger.

A somewhat short women who was skinny for someone her age but curved at her hips. Hair that reached just a over her rib cage hoisted in a ponytail at the top of her head.

Her short legs covered in simple torn up jeans, and a pair of tattered old tennis shoes. Her torso covered in a simple faded Harley Davidson shirt, her most noticeable feature was her large white smile.

"Uhm hello" I finally spoke up after having finished my short inspection of the women.

"Oh my goodness you must be Kennedy!" She shrieked enveloping me in a hug.

"I am" I squeaked out hugging back lightly due to her pressure.

"Oh so sorry I can be a bit overwhelming, I'm Laurel, Coles mother" She smiled at me again.

"So nice to meet you" I smiled in return before turning back to Cole.

He had a blank stare and his mouth was open just barely. He was kind of slumped over with one hand in his hair tugging at the roots.

"My aren't you just the cutest little thing" She spoke pulling my eyes away from Cole.

"Thank you" I looked down a small blush creeping on my cheeks.

"Cole baby you alright, you look like you've seen a ghost" She asked stepping around me to look at her son.

"I feel like I have, you look so-"

"Different" She cut him off as he was clearly lost for words.

"You're here" He spoke before engulfing his mother in a tight hug.

Their embrace was so sweet and heartfelt, as if they hadn't seen each other in years. The way he bent down due to the fact he towered over her and held her tight. How she rubbed his back softly a smile causing her cheeks to be pushed up.

I scurried into the kitchen and grabbed a glass filling it with sweet tea.

Sweet tea was the one thing Cole always requested when we went to the grocery store. Saying how he had never gone a day without it, how he was practically bottle fed that instead of milk.

Pouring a cup and added half a teaspoon of sugar the way he had liked it.

Coming back in to see them sitting on the sofa. I set the tea down in front of Laurel.

"Here you much be famished, I can get you something to eat if you like" I offered causing her to look up at me.

"No thank you so much." She smiled and took a sip, letting out a noise that resembled satisfaction.

"Tastes just like how I make it at home, thank you again" She flashed yet another smile setting it down.

"I'm going to go and give you some privacy" I gave her a smile in return before heading up the stairs.

But I was too noisy to actually just go upstairs. That was until I heard something that made me change that.

"I like her" Laurel spoke softly "She is good for you" She added.

And with that I sent myself up the rest of the steps and to my parents room like a little girl.

The truth was I missed them because they worked so much. It felt like I barely even saw them nowadays.

Not to mention after seeing how Cole reacted to his mother I had realized how much I don't appreciate seeing my parents everyday.

I opened the door to a blast of cold air from the air conditioner to see them cuddled up watching their favorite movie.

"Hi honey what's up" My mom smiled scooching over.

"I have missed you guys that's all" I smiled taking off my shoes.

"Well hop in kiddo we are watching Ted" My dad chuckled wrapping his arm around my mom.

"Did you know Coles mother is here?" I asked my dad crawling in next to my mom.

"Yes, I figured as month two of the program is fixing what had formed their problems bringing his mother would be best as most of his issues deal with family" He answered.

"That makes sense actually" I said nodding my head shivering as my legs made contact with the cold bedding.

"Thanks you know I do have a college degree kid" He said in mock offense at my statement.

"God dad your so sensitive" I joked sticking my tongue out.

"Watch the movie before I smack you both" My mother jokingly yelled pointing at the screen.

Siting in comfortable silence I laid in my parents bed like a two year old and watched a movie. The funny thing was I was pretty damn happy with it too.

Once the movie ended my mother had decided it was time to go make dinner. Little do I know I would be sent down to see if they were getting along or not.

So I closed their door and walked down the steps. Creeping around the corner I tried to listen in.

"Cole you know I didn't change on purpose" Laurel sounded defensive in her tone.

"Yeah well you did! So why did you come here dressed like this. In dads old shirt! What the fuck is that mom" Cole almost shouted at her.

"Cole enough" Laurel sternly demanded her son to behave.

"No mom! You can't just check out from acting like my actual mother and turn into some fucking Midwestern house wife!" He finally shouted at her.

"Michole Elijah Peter Hawthore you lower your tone with me!" She shouted in return at her son making me cringe.

"I want a fucking answer mom! Why are you here! Like this! You said it looked like I had seen a ghost! Well I have, you haven't dressed like this since dad died!" He spoke his voice calmer.

"Why did you suddenly ditch your church dresses and shoes on sticks for fucking ripped jeans and cowboy boots! Like everything has rewinded four years" He shouted yet again, his tone scaring me.

"I left Steven" Laurel spoke up her voice meek and mild.

"Mom I had no idea" He almost whispered to her.

Finally I stepped off of the final step and turned the corner.

"So who's ready for dinner?" I smiled.
