Maybe if I climb out the window, I think as I eye the bed sheets. I grin and rip the bedsheets off the bed and start tying them together. Then I drag my new rope-ish thing and fling open the window.
Wow, it's a long way down.
"Is this even long enough?" I ask myself, then shrug. Screw it, here I go.
I tie one end of the blankets on a bedpost of the bed, praying to God it doesn't drag the bed with me, and throw the rest out the window so it hangs down. I take a deep breath, and swing my leg in the window, gripping the bedsheets tightly. Then I start to make my way down.
Yes! Here it is! I'm about to taste freedom!
I squeal in joy when my feet finally touch the ground. I jump up and down happily and turn around, braced to run.
My squeal dies down when I see Ethan standing there with his arms crossed over his chest. He moves toward me and I hold my hand up.
"I know the drill," I muttered and hold my arms up. He throws me over his shoulder again and I rest my elbows on his back, frowning.

Vanessa Rodriguez Tries To Escape But We All Know She Will Fail Miserably Take 3!
The chimney!
This is perfect, I rant inside my mind. I'll go up the chimney like Santa and wait on the roof for the reindeer!
...
Or..., the reasonable side of me says. I didn't even know she existed. We can wait up on the roof to make the gang think we finally escaped, and while they look for us, we will escape when they're gone!
"Yeah!" I say to myself and walk over to the chimney and crawl up in it. I coughed when dust got in my lungs and tried to climb up.
Don't try this at home, kids.
After what seemed like hours of climbing, I looked down to see my progress. I had only gone up like 2 feet.
Well, this is going to take a while. Have a pinecone while you wait.
-
"Yessss," I say when my head peeks out the top of the chimney. I pull myself out the chimney and stand on the roof, the wind blowing my hair all over my face. I spit some hairs out of my mouth and grin. My smile quickly disappears when I see Ethan also on the roof, casually smoking a cigarette.
"AW, COME ON!" I shouted in frustration. "Are you kidding me?"
Ethan shrugs, getting rid of his cigarette and making his way over to me. I notice a ladder near the edge of the roof.
"Wait... Can I have a piggy back ride?" I ask when he is about to throw me over his shoulder again. He looks at me for a minute before turning his back towards me.
"Yay!" I squealed and got on his back, wrapping my arms around his neck tightly, but not to much to choke him as he takes us down the ladder.
-
I'm back in the room, eyeing Ethan carefully as he stands by the door with his hands crossed over his chest.
"You're good," I admit after a while, trying to get rid of the silence.
He shrugs as if to say, I try.
"You don't talk much, do you?"
He smiles in response.
I groan and flop backwards on the now bear bed. I roll over on my stomach and sigh, tracing the mattress, all of a sudden sad. I would give anything to be back at home with Val while he teased me about my crush about Matthew.
I wonder what they're doing now.
-
Somewhere in Vanessa's room back home...
-
"Kidnapped! By a GANG LEADER?" Val booms, pacing her room while he awaits for the police to call him back.
"Ooh," Vicky says when she notices a pink box with a candy sticker on the top. She pulls it out with a grin when she sees it's Vanessa's secret stash of candy.
"I found her candy!" Vicky says, stuffing her face.
Val turns to her and glares and Vicky shrugs in response.
"More for me," she muttered.
-
Back to our lovely Vanessa...
-
"Ethan!" a voice says, startling me. I recognize it as Angela. "Bring the girl and come over here! Keith has a plan!"
Ethan looks over at me and I cross my arms over my chest. "I'm not going," I say stubbornly. "I could care less about Keith or his stupid plan."
He gives me a look, and I know I don't really have a choice. I sigh again and slide off the bed in defeat.
He leads me to another, bigger room and opens the door for me. I step in hesitantly and gulp when I see a couple of guns resting comfortably on the desk in the corner.
Keith then turns around, grinning evilly. I don't like this look. Or what he is about to say next:
"Vanessa Rodriguez, you're going to be our spy."
