"Don't bring him into this. It has nothing to do with him."
"I don't believe you. You're definitely still in love with him. You can't forget him, can you?" Kai questioned.
"Kai, I've explained already. You know that I never lie. It is what it is."
"Then, there's no chance of us getting back together?" Kai asked, distraught.
Lisa remained silent.
"Alright, I understand." With that, Kai took out a wad of cash from his bag and placed it on the coffee table.
"I heard that you spent some money on my bail yesterday and also for the hotel room. Here, I don't want to owe you anything. We're even now. Lisa, I'm warning you. Since you've made your decision today, don't regret it. When that rich boy doesn't want you anymore, when he's done toying with you, don't you come begging me to take you back. I've given you a chance, and you're the one who threw it away."
Hearing this, Lisa felt somewhat speechless.
After Kai finished talking, he turned around and opened the door to leave.
"Hey, you haven't taken your stuff yet." Lisa reminded him out of kindness.
"I don't want it. Throw it away," Kai huffed before slamming the door behind him.
This time, it's really over, right? Lisa thought.
Just then, her cell phone rang. Lisa turned around to reach for it.
"Ruto." When Lisa picked up the phone, her voice took on a doting tone.
"Noona, are you off work today?"
"Yeah."
"Then let's go to dad's grave together at noon."
"Okay." Lisa was planning to go even if Haruto hadn't called.
It had been exactly seven years since Uncle Watanabe passed away. It was on this day, seven years ago, that Uncle Watanabe died from that fatal car crash.
"I already went with Mom this morning and her mood wasn't great. I'll go with you again at noon." Haruto replied.
"Don't you have classes today?"
"Nope. I'm going to the library to study in the afternoon."
"Alright, wait for me. We'll meet at the gates of the public cemetery."
"Okay."
Hanging up, Lisa's mood instantly grew heavy.
She still remembered that night seven years ago. She was on her way home from her evening classes when a black Buick commercial van came charging at her, too quick for her to dodge.
It was then that Uncle Watanabe, who was there to pick her up from school, suddenly charged over and pushed her aside.
In the end, she could only watch as Uncle Watanabe died under the wheels of that car. His blood formed a stream on the pavement.
She only sustained minor injuries and a few scrapes, but the accident cost Uncle Watanabe his life.
If it were not for her, he wouldn't have died.
Originally, she had thought that it was just an accident. However, she was left dumbstruck when she later learned that the driver responsible for the crash was the Jeon Family's chauffeur.
How audacious was the Jeon Family that they couldn't even be bothered to cover up the fact that they paid for someone to be killed? Did they really need to send their own chauffeur to do their dirty work?
