Chapter 14

“C’mon Scar, just go to sleep,” Liam cooed in a soothing voice, “just go to sleep for daddy” it was the first night Scarlett was spending at Chloe and Liam’s house.

“Would she be hungry?” Chloe said appearing in the doorway to the nursery.

“No, I only fed her half an hour ago”

“Does she need her nappy changed?”

“No I just changed it. Chloe, can you help me I don’t know what to do?”

“Okay, but only because I need sleep. Put her in the crib and I will be back in a sec.” Chloe returned a second later with her guitar, she handed her guitar to Liam and pulled the rocking chair so it was facing the crib, which held a still screaming Scarlett. She started singing a song her mum had started writing when she was born and Chloe finished it when she moved out of home.

(Now!)

“Your little hands wrapped around my finger and it’s so quiet in the world tonight,

Your little eyelids flutter coz you’re dreaming so I tuck you in turn on your favourite night light,

To you everything’s funny, you’ve got nothing to regret,

I’d give all I have honey for you to stay like that,

Oh darlin’ don’t you ever grow up, don’t you ever grow up, just stay this little,

Oh darling don’t you ever grow up, don’t you ever grow up, it could stay this simple,

I won’t let nobody hurt you, wont let no one break your heart, and no one will desert you,

Just try to never grow up, never grow up.

Your in the car on your way to the movies and you’re mortified your mum’s dropping you off,

At fourteen there’s just so much you can't do and you can't wait to move out someday and call your own shots,

But don’t make her drop you off around the block, remember that she is getting older too and don’t lose they way that you dance around in your PJ’s getting ready for school.

Oh darlin’ don’t you ever grow up, don’t you ever grow up, just stay this little,
