Priority, Not Dislike

Start from the beginning

"Was it because no one was there?" Obi-Wan questioned gently.

Ahsoka nodded.

"My quarters are always open for you," Obi-Wan offered. "Now about that failed test. Would you like some help?"

Ahsoka gave him a grateful look, "that'd be great. Thank you, Master."

"Of course, my dear," Obi-Wan set in for a very long session of studies.

"Anakin, we need to talk."

"Why? What's wrong?" Anakin didn't look up from stuffing his face with food.

"It's about Ahsoka," Obi-Wan sat down beside his former padawan.

"What>: Anakin dropped his fork. "Where is she? What happened to her> Is she okay?"

Obi-Wan held up his hand to silence Anakin. "Ahsoka is finally asleep in my quarters. She's fine... for the time being. Anakin, do you know how many hights she's gone without sleeping?"

"I always tell her not to stay up late," Anakin groaned. "Don't blame me. Qui-Gon never blamed you."

Obi-Wan glared at him but brushed off the rude remark. "Answer the question. Do you know?"

Anakin sighed. "No."

"All week. She hasn't slept all week."

"Well, I tell her not to stay up talking to her friends or watching holo films!" Anakin blurted before Obi-Wan could continue.

"It's not anything like that. Ahsoka hasn't been able to sleep."

"Why not?" Anakin stuffed a large chunk of meat in his mouth.

"Many reasons. One is that she's had to spend hours fretting over homework she doesn't know how to do. Homework you promised to help her with and never did."

Anakin's eyes held a look of guilt as he chewed slowly.

"Another reason is that she keeps having nightmares. But when no one's there..." Obi-Wan trailed off, allowing Anakin to figure the rest of it on his own.

Anakin swallowed hard and dragged his hands down his face. "Oh, holy moons, Ahsoka. I didn't know I was doing this to her. I'm a horrible master! Obi-Wan, I have to go talk to her!" Anakin sprang up from the bench.

Obi-Wan caught Anakin's arm. "She's finally sleeping. Don't you dare wake her."

"I won't, I promise," Anakin shook his arm free and ran out of the mess hall.

Obi-Wan sat back with a satisfied smile. Now all he had to do was drink tea and watch everything unfold; to see Anakin and Ahsoka's bond flourish.

Ahsoka both sensed and heard Anakin approaching. She buried herself further into the blankets on Obi-Wan's bed (he'd been nice enough to move her there after she fell asleep on the couch) and closed her eyes. Ahsoka didn't want to talk to him at that moment.

Anakin came into the room and sat on the end of the bed. Ahsoka felt it sink in from his weight.

Minutes passed but Anakin never left. Realizing he'd stay there for an hour if he had to, Ahsoka finally decided to speak up.

"Obi-Wan told you, didn't he?" Ahsoka spoke softly.

Anakin gasped and jumped. He clapped his hand over his chest. "Holy moons, Ahsoka. I thought you were asleep!"

"Sorry," Ahsoka paused. "Did he?"

"Yeah," Anakin sighed. "I didn't know it was this serious, Snips. Why didn't you tell me?"

"I couldn't" Ahsoka's voice cracked and she could only hope Anakin excused it as the result of whispering. "You never stick around long enough to have a full conversation when we're not on a mission. And you don't show up to most of our lightsaber training so I can't tell you then, either."

Anakin shut his eyes and let out a long, slow breath. "Ahsoka, I am so, so sorry. I've failed as a master."

Ahsoka sniffed, hoping the darkness hid her tears.

"But you know what? I'm going to fix this. We're going to fix this. We'll make a schedule, and I'll go by it this time. We'll fix this..." He held out his hand. "...together."

Ahsoka brushed her tears away and clasped his hand with hers. "Together.

I'm going to be completely honest with you. I really like this one. I feel like since Anakin tries to spend every moment he can with Padmé, he'd unintentionally neglect Ahsoka.

I haven't much else to say.
