i sat in joe's backyard, by the bonfire, surrounded by joe's family. joe and i sat next to each other while music played softly in the background.

his brother's dan and jamie were over with their wives and kids. joe being the youngest, he had yet to start a family.

dan's 4 year old daughter, ella, stuck by my side the entire night since i was the only other girl besides her mom and aunt. robin was in the house cleaning.

ella sat on my lap while i stared off into space. everyone talking around me. i wasn't in the mood for social interaction today so i stayed to myself.

dan came over and picked ella up off of me and i smiled at her. i was starting to get tired

"hope," joe said breaking me out of my thoughts. i looked up at him and hummed

"mind if i share your song with jamie? he loves new music and you" he joked at the end making me crack a smile

"go right ahead" i said before taking a drink of my water

and that he did. he played the song on the speaker making me blush. we looked at each other, smiles drawn on our faces. i leaned back in my chair still looking at him

"geez will you two just kiss again already" dan said walking back outside

"who says we haven't already" i said looking up at him and he gave me a shocked looked

normally joe would say something like that, not me, ever. i smiled at him before turning back to joe who had a smirk planted on his face.

i got up and went inside to find robin sitting at the kitchen table with a wine glass in front of her. i went and sat across from her.

"oh hello sweetheart" she said looking up from her phone

"hey," i started "mind if i join?"

"go grab yourself a glass" she said.

and that i did. i got up and got a glass before sitting back down and pooring out a glass. i sipped on it while we talking about random things

"so you and my son?" she asked making me laugh

"we are just friends" i said. it wasn't a lie, but it wasn't the full truth

"honey, i know that's a lie. i see the way you look at each other, the way you talk to each other, how carefree you are around each other. you are both still in love" she told me

"we are just going slow. we aren't pushing anything. we are letting whatever happens, happen." i truthfully told her

"i'm glad. he has missed you" she said

"i missed him" i honestly answered.

soon enough joe came walking through the back door and made eye contact with me. once he made sure no uncomfort was shown, he sat down next to me.

"what are my two favorite ladies talking about?" he asked while putting his hand on my thigh, making me blush

"just you" i said while putting my head on his shoulder. he leaned his head on top of mine

"you tired?" he asked me and i nodded
