i crawled under the hole, running to cain

"elena, she is dying" i yelled, repeatedly

my brothers, dante especially, ran to the closet

while cain called an ambulance, holding me in his other arm

"i'm so sorry, i couldn't save her." i balled his shirt in my hand, bawling on his shoulder

"that isnt your fault mia" he rubbed my back, pushing my head against his chest as they carried elena out of the room

the past couple hours have been hell

i've been worried about elena

i'm burning hot

and cramping

i buried my face in my pillow, crying away the rest of my energy

my bed dipped down on one side

i looked up to see who it was

"is dante mad at me?" i asked

"why would he be?" he replied, tucking my hair behind my ear

"because i couldn't help her."

he grabbed my hand, rubbing his thumb pad on the back of it

"mia, he knows it wasn't your fault. You're the reason she even had a pulse going still." he reassured me, kissing my hand

he looked up at my face, changing his relaxed facial expression quickly to worried

he placed a hand on my forehead, pursing his lips

"you have a fever" he mumbled, jogging to the bathroom and coming back with a wet rag

he placed the rag on my forehead

the cooling sensation relaxing my muscles

"are you sick?"

"i mean i felt a little toasty, and nauseous, and tired. I think i'll be okay though." i said, sipping some water from a mug he gave to me

"open" he demanded, placing a thermometer in my mouth

the thermometer beeped, displaying '103.7'

he widened his eyes, picking me up bridal style

carrying me down the stairs, and out of the house

"why didn't you tell me you weren't feeling okay?" he rubbed my thigh, speeding down the road

"you're dramatic, it's a small fever" i huffed, fanning my face with a piece of paper

"it's borderline death, mia" he said, passing a red light

wavering his eyes back and forth between the road and my face

"you're gonna cause a car accident." i said reaching over to the steering wheel
