"Hello?" I answered irritably. I sank my back into the pillows behind me, one hand holding the cellphone up to me ear and the other arm draped across my stomach.

"I'm sorry," Coleman said in a way that did not make it sound like he was all that sorry. "I'll refrain from nicknames for the duration of this call, alright?"

"Look, I just want to hear your opinion." I rolled over onto my side. "Do you think it would be okay if I told Nikolas about what happened with Esmerelda? Or would it cause some big conflict?"

"Why do you care so much about telling him anything anyways?" he deflected.

"Because Nikolas is my friend!" I sat up and crossed my legs under me.

"I still don't understand how you two even became friends."

"Um, it's because Nikolas was actually a nice human being to me."

"I remember you sang quite a different tune when you first met him," Coleman countered.

"Yes, for like a week I didn't think much of him, but at the Autumn Festival we became friends. My opinion on him has vastly improved."

"And what about your opinion on me?" Coleman asked. "Has it changed much from our first encounter?"

"I don't see how you have anything to do with this conversation," I retorted, flopping onto my back and draping myself across the middle of the king-sized bed.

"Well, seeing as how you are talking to me, I'd say I'm a key player in the conversation, aren't I?"

"It's not always about you, Coleman." I placed my free arm across my eyes. "So do you think it matters if I tell Nikolas? I'd really like to be able to tell him about it."

"So he can cry on your shoulder because Esmerelda broke his heart?"

Gosh! I thought. He just deflects me every time with some stupid question!

"I highly doubt that will happen."

"You make a fair point, Cassie, I mean, the man's a robot."

I thought of Nikolas's blushing face and awkwardness...no, he was no robot.

"Well I'm just going to tell him whatever I want then and hope for the best!" I rolled over onto my stomach.

"Do you think that is the wisest choice?" Coleman asked me.

I froze for a moment. "Well, um, yes?"

"Are you sure?"

"Coleman, what are you getting at?" I snapped.

He said nothing for a moment. "I don't know," he casually admitted. "I actually have no idea why you even called me in the first place. Are you seeking my permission to chat up Nikky?" he then spoke quietly, his mouth clearly pressed up to the microphone of his phone. "Cassie, are aspiring to become Nikolas's rebound? Mr. Lines and Etiquette?!"

"I'm literally not!" I banged fist on the bed. "You are seriously the most annoying person ever!"

Coleman laughed. "Hey, maybe you're looking for the rebound. Are you broken hearted over poor Lucas?"

"I'm not looking for a rebound," I retorted.

"Why not?" he asked, with lilting tones. "Though, I suppose your last rebound perhaps didn't go as well as you could have hoped, so I can understand."

"My last rebound?" I asked, hoping Coleman wasn't suggesting what I thought he was. "Are you saying Luke was my rebound?"

"You said it, not me."
