Armoured Cavalry Regiments.

Imperial Armoured Cavalry Regiments.

Armoured Cavalry Regiments are unique within the Wehrmacht, the Kovenant Imperial Army especially. Because unlike most other Regiments, Armoured Cavalry Regiments are as what the name implies are mixed Cavalry and mechanised formations that work in tandem with one another. Supported by their own Artillery batteries, medical, supply and logistical personel to form their own combined arms formation that will be able to act effectively on the field.

However, it is worth noting that these Regiments are mostly comprised of mounted, horse riding Infantry Formations.

Now, people often wonder why Kovenant soldiers and specifically those within armoured Cavalry Regiments would still fight on horses, when, surely mechanised armies are possible, right?

That's because there is a reason for the fact majority of these men and women fight on horseback and that has to do with the nature of their homeworld.

You see Armoured Cavalry Regiments are only raised upon Kovenant colony worlds that have not fully developed yet, these are planets that do not have a strong Industry, economy nor would it have anything more than basic infrastructure simply because it is still not outside of its colonial development phase... These Planets, while having enough resources to provide for themselves cannot spare anymore of their own resources to try and develop a strong industrial base simply because all their efforts are focused on defence, agriculture, or simply maintaining what they already have.

As such, these underdeveloped worlds do not have the industrial base necessary to raise fully mechanised armies unlike most other planets in the Kovenant Empire, whom can afford to raise them.

Because of this fact, these worlds could only ever hope to raise partially mechanised army mixed in with a mostly Infantry/cavalry element with them.

The simple fact is that these Planets do not have the benefit of fully industrial societies to back them up and as such have to make do with what they already have in house.

Armoured Cavalry Regiments can be employed as mobile front line units alongside other formations of troops.
However, they are often best used behind friendly lines to act as means of rear line security. They can be used to patrol friendly lines, perform mop up operations againts small pockets of enemy resistance or else just secure the supply routes to the front and even guide lost soldiers to the front.

Additionally they can also be used to help logistics. Since they can use their compliment of horses to help lift the burden off other units, because a horse after all is still a useful creature to man.

Organisation.

An Armoured Cavalry Regiment consists of:
• 6 Cavalry Companies.
• 2 Mechanised Infantry Brigades.
• 1 Heavy Weapons company (Smaller.)
• 2 Horse Drawn Light Artillery batteries.
• 1 Large logistical unit.
• 1 L.N. Funker Detachment.
• 1 Armoured Car Platoon.
• 1 Replacement horse group.

One thing to note is that there are very few actual vehicles in these Regiments, it is mostly Horses and pack animals, the worlds they came from can only produce atleast 2 Brigades worth of mechanised hardware.

Also to note: Is that the logistical unit use pack animals, mules and horses that can draw heavy loads. This also includes draft horses.
They also make use of trucks and they have atleast a few hundread trucks, however by comparison there were thousands of pack animals present to help make up the lack of mechanisation.

Cavalry Companies.

Cavalry Companies make up the bulk of the fighting strength of Armoured Cavalry Regiments. These formations are typically horse mounted Infantry formations that use the horses as a mode of transportation. They represent the bulk of the strength of the Regiment and are often the primary assault forces behind an offensive.
