"That's enough." You growled, standing between the kids throwing the things and the cage with your hands on your hips. The kids only looked at you before walking away. Probably home from how low the sun was setting. You had to guess that you have to guard the cage even throughout the night. Just to pass the time, you drew the Werehyena. Trying to make him as realistic as you could. When the sun was completely down and you were sure everyone was in their huts, you scooted closer to the cage.

"I'm not looking for a way to kill you." You whispered incase someone would wake up and heard you, "I'm a scientist, I'm just curious about you. You're still a living breathing creature, no matter what they say."

He only watched you, making you sigh. You tried to sound as genuine as you could, but it seems he still doesn't believe you.

"My name is Amari." He grunted, making you smile wide as you wrote his name down.

"Amari, do you mind if I ask you some questions regarding your talents and strengths?"

He was quiet but nodded, making you nearly squeal in excitement, before you started asking him questions. You found out that he was way stronger than humans, he only looked like a hyena at night, and in the day time he was a blacksmith. Who would think that a Werehyena would have an actual human job? He takes the bones from dead animals and turns them into jewlery. He doesn't steal from human graves like the village believes.

"You're a curious one, (Y/N)." He chuckled after probably hours of questions, "I've never meet someone, who's only see me in wonder and amazement. I'm just a grave robber to normal humans."

"I've never meet a creature like you and the reason I became a scientist was so that I can learn about all animals. That includes the creatures I don't know about, such as yourself."

That seemed so surprise him, but he gave, what you can only assume was, a hyena form of a smile. When he held up something that he was messing with, you gasped at the necklace he made. It looked to have been made of the skull of a small African cat and some of the sticks the kids threw at him earlier.

"I started making this when I found that your curiosity in me was true. Think of this as a gift to the only normal human willing to accept me. Hide it from the villagers, so they won't take it from you." He held the necklace out to you through the cage with a paw.

"Thank you, Amari." You gasped slipping it on, then hiding it in your shirt.

"Miss (Y/N), get away from the monster!" yelping as you were pulled away from the cage, you blinked at Chief Adisa in confusion before looking towards where you realized the sun was rising, "You're safe now, Miss (Y/N). These creatures are known to be sneaky and lure others into traps.

Glancing at Amari in worry, you frowned when you saw the hunters surrounding his cage with spears.

"Chief, should we kill him now?" Chima, called earning a harsh growl from Amari.

"No, we will wait till to moon is at its highest tonight." the Chief odered, making your stomach drop. You had a feeling that they would kill Amari, but you didn't think it was so soon.

"Chief, I'm going to get some rest." You explained, glance over at Amari before heading to your hut. In fact, you were already coming up with a plan to help him escape.

Your plan started at night fall. You already had your bag packed since, you would probably have to leave as soon as you set him free. There was no way the village would let you leave alive if you freed a creature they considered a demon. Slipping your bag on, you made your way to the cage where you saw that Chima and Diallo were guarding the cage again. Both going on alert when they saw you.

"Chima and Dillo, Chief Adisa wants you to help with the set up." You lied, " I can watch the demon for you."

"What if it tricks you again?" Dillo questioned.

"I won't be fooled twice." You acted to assure them, "Best hurry."

The still seemed unsure, but ran off. With them gone, you took out a lock picking kit you had and got started on the cage. You were almost embarrassed to admit that picking locks was a small hobby of yours. Not that you would ever admit that to the other scientists.

"(Y/N), what are you doing?" Amari hissed, before you smirked at his shock as the cage swung open.

"Getting you out of here." You chuckled, grabbing his arm and pulling him out. Yelping as he covered you, while spears shot by you both. You forgot how fast they could go across the village. With the angry villagers after you, there's was hardly any time to run.

"(Y/N), let's go" He barked, getting to all fours. It didn't even process in your mind what he wanted. You just instantly climbed onto his back and held on as he ran. Out of the village, away from the angry villagers, and into the African savannah.

-Time Skip 5 Years-

Pacing the floor, you tried to calm down, so the baby in your arms would stay calm. How could you though when two of your kids were out there. Sure you sent Amari to get them, but what if he didn't get to them in time? Jumping as the door opened, you tried to calm your now crying daughter. Amari was back with your twin boys. You knelt down as the pups ran up to you. They had obtained their father's trait of turning into a werehyena. It was to soon to tell if your daughter had it or not. The boys ran to you, hugging you tightly while whimpering. Trying to act cute to get out of trouble.

"You are not getting off that easily." You snapped, making them whimper and hide behind Amari, who stood. A small smile on his face with his arms crossed as he shook his head.

"Now, love, I believe our boys learned about the dangers outside our village. Is there a need to scold them?"

"They could have been killed by hyenas or a jaguar, or even captured by normal humans." You reminded him, crossing your arms across your chest.

"We're sorry mama." Your eldest twin son, (B/N), apologized. Though he took after you in looks, he had more of his father's calm and reserved personality as well as his red eyes.

"Sorry mama." The youngest, (B/N), copied his brother. He was the complete opposite of his brother, despite being twins. He had your curiosity and your temper, though he looked almost exactly like his father. With them both being three years old, it shouldn't surprise you that they want to explore everything. Sighing, you pulled them both into a hug and kissing their furry little heads.

"We're just glad you're okay." You sighed, "but you're not playing with Bisa or Abiola all day."

Both groaned, earning a chuckled from Amari, "If you're done punishing them, we have to get ready to go to the blacksmith."

Nodding, you let the boys go back to their shared room. They often go with their father to his job. It keeps them busy while you take care of (D/N) and take care of the hut.

Amari walked up to you, while hooking an arm around your waist. When you helped him escape all those years ago, you never thought about a future with him. Yet here you were married to him with two boys and a daughter. Living in a village that was populated by almost only Werehyenas, except for yourself.

"Thank you for going after them. I know you don't like to leave the village before sunrise." You sighed.

"Anything for my family, love" He hummed nuzzling you, "I get a reward now, right?"

Rolling your eyes, you kissed his nose, "Yes, I'll make some omelets and bread."

"Yes! Hear that boys, we're eating good for breakfast." He cheered, earning a yell of joy from the boys. You definitely never though, you would stay in Africa, but now, you couldn't even imagine leaving it or your family. You loved it here, just as much as you loved your family and you're willing to fight whoever tries to harm them.
