/57/ Culomus

[Jill Morie's POV]

THE clock is ticking and I don't know what's in his head.

Si Dr. Raphael Irvin, ang sinasabi nilang may gawa ng Culomus, ay nakatayo sa harapan, walang inuusal na mga salita. Gusto ko na sanang tumayo at umalis dito dahil kalahating oras na siyang walang sinasabi at nakatuon lang ang atensyon sa laptop. Tatayo na sana 'ko para magsalita, nang bigla niya 'yong sinara, tsaka kinuha ang marker at nagsimulang sumulat sa white board.

Pagkatapos niyang magsulat ay tsaka siya pumihit paharap sa'kin, kinuha ang microphone, tumikhim muna bago nagsalita. 

"Before I explain the further details about the Culomus, let me have this short introduction. Would you read what's written on the board?" We're at the conference room of the Beehive and seriously para akong nasa isang university at one on one na nakikipagklase sa isang professor.

"Free will versus determinism."

"Very well then. Miss Morie, alam mo naman siguro kung anong ibig sabihin ng free will hindi ba?" Tumango lang ako bilang pagsagot, gusto ko na sanang magtanong kung para saan 'tong lecture na 'to at sigurado ba talaga siya na siya yung gumawa ng Culomus. "Free will shows that humans have control over our decisions, we have the free will determining the course of our action, we are free to move, free to decide about everything, tayo ang namimili sa gusto nating gawin dahil tayong mga nilalang ay malayang makapagdesisyon sa kung ano mang mangyayari," I won't deny, he already caught my interest over the topic "But!" the sound of microphone screeched. "Determinism defies this." Hininaan niya yung boses niya, halos bumubulong, "Is there anything you couldn't predict? The biggest threat to freewill is the physical laws. Determinism means that the future is already determined, that we humans do not have any power to influence the future."

Mula sa bulsa ng white coat niya ay naglabas siya ng barya at ipinakita sa'kin, "Head or tail?" inihilig niya ng bahagya yung ulo nang hindi ako kaagad nakasagot sa kanya.

"Tail." bigla niya iyong pinitik upang umikot-ikot sa ere, atsaka niya ipinakita sa'kin na tama ang hula ko.

"Right. Correct,"  tatangu-tango niyang sabi. "What just happened is not random, people often say that things like this  happened because of uncertain possibilities, sometimes they tend to decide using toss coin because of the so called randomness. Wrong, there is no such thing as randomness, if we use the physical laws and we compute the amount of force, distance etc, we can actually predict the outcome, and we can actually know if it is head or tail." nagpalakad-lakad sa harapan si Dr. Irvin, hindi mapakali pero makikitang ganadong-ganado siyang magsalita na animo'y nagkukwento ng isang hindi kapani-paniwalang istorya.

"Same concept in dice, billiards, and dominos; it went all that way because of physical laws. Particle paths are predictable. Information has certain patterns, DNA, words, codes, and so on and so forth, they are not random, they are determined. There are twelve fundamental particles of universe and imagine if we were able to determine the positions of every single one of these particles, we could predict anything!"
