COULD we get the check to please?" Jackson says and I lookup

He's finished eating and so have I, the waiter nods walking to register and Jax gets his wallet out

"No Jax, I got this," I say to him and I pull my card out, but he pushes my hand away

"No Vic, it's my treat," he says and he pushes my hand down and I look at him

"Thank you," I say

"You can pay next time," he says jokingly

"If there is a next time," I remark and he pretends to be fake hurt

"Vic you really hurt me," he says and I smile at him

He pays and I strap Violet back in, and we make our way to the car. The drive is silent but it is not awkward, I hear a song that I really like on the radio so I turn it up and start to sing and I see Jax look at me from the concern of my eye and he is laughing

I continue to sing and he turns the music down

"Hey! I was listening to that" I say and he laughs at me

"You really can't sing though Vic" he replies and I lightly smack his chest and he turns the music back up. He pulls into the Shepherd driveway and we're both singing this time, and laughing.

He helps me get Violet out of the car

"You are just as bad as I am Jax," I say

"Nah Vic, no one can be as bad as you," he says and he opens the door for me

"Really, I think you need to listen to yourself singing more," I say to him and he laughs, and we walk into the living room where everyone is sitting. Chloe and Scarlett are studying, Ellie is talking to Olivia, and Jane and Julian are drinking wine, everyone stops what they are doing and they look at us. 

I see Scarlett's mouth drop the same as Chloe's, and I see Ellie's face turn redder than a tomato. We stop what we are doing and it goes silent. Ellie gets up and whisks Jax away and he awkwardly waves at me and Chole comes to get Violet and usher me over to where she and Scarlett are. Jane and Julian are shocked and they get up and move to the kitchen

"What the hell was that Tori," they say to me

"What?" I reply

"You guys laughing," Scarlett says

"Well Jax said I was a bad singer so I had to remind him he wasn't any better," I say and they both look at each other then me

"What guys it was no big deal," I say

"It did not look like that" Scarlett says and Violet makes a loud noise

"See even baby Vi agrees," she says

"No she agrees with mummy, that it was nothing," I say and I look back at them "Guys we were together for a reason" I reply and they look down and they go silent again

"How was her appointment?" Chloe asks

"Good, she was so brave," I say and I ask them how their day was and they begin to ramble about chemistry and the new hot drama teacher.

I excuse myself to help Jane and Julian in the kitchen and I leave Violet with the 2 of them. I walk into the kitchen where they are marinating meat and peeling fruits and veggies

"Hey guys," I say and Jane looks up at me

"I see you guys had fun today," she says

"Yes we did"

"I take it the appointment went well too," Julian says and I nod

"What can I do to help"

"Well, can you drain that tub of tofu and cut it into slices," Jane says and I nod

"Who is the tofu for?" I ask draining the white-colored liquid out of the container, then putting the block of matter

"It's for Ellie, she is a vegan, and we are having meat for dinner," Julian says and I nod, but for some reason, I feel a pang in my chest.

I help them prepare and cook dinner, we put some music on dance whilst cooking, and at this exact moment, I don't feel like something is missing in my life. I have a beautiful and healthy baby girl and a loving supporting family.

Although my spirits are crushed 30 minutes later. When dinner is ready and the table is set. Jane calls everyone over and I take a seat beside Scarlett and I have a spot beside me, Violet is asleep and in my arms, the 1 thing I did not realize about motherhood is how much babies want to be held, I am generally holding Violet for most meals unless someone else is.

Jax and Ellie come down the stairs, after being tucked upstairs since we got back here, and I see Jax come to sit next to me but hear Ellie clear her throat and he looks up and, moves to the other end of the table to be with her. Julian sees this and sits next to me and takes Violet so I can eat, but my heart returns back to its broken self.

All of my glee turns into sorrow.

After dinner finishes, I help clean up and Scarlett and I head home. We get in the car and I am driving again, I have to move the seat, and Scarlett eyes me off

"He drove today Scar," I say

"Of course he did" she replies and I give her a look

"What's wrong?" she asks me

"He tried to sit next to me at dinner and she made him move," I say

"Oh" she replies "maybe she's jealous"

"But what for" I reply

"Tori, he calls you Vic. Grayson says they talk about you all time. She must know you guys were together. You guys have a long history, I think she knows it"

"But I have a baby know" I reply

"and whose her father?" she says

"Yeah you are right," I say, she's right.

We get home quickly and we sneak up the stairs past my family.

"She needs a bath tonight, she is stinky," I say and Scarlett agrees

"You're a stinky baby," she says and tugs on the baby's foot, and Violet flashes a small smile, or what we call a smile. "You are the cutest stinky baby," Scarlett replies, scooping her up and I smile. I am so grateful that I have a friend that treats my baby as her own.

We bathe Violet and get her all cleaned up before I put lotion on her body and dress her for bed. I feed her and put her to sleep, whilst Scarlett cleans up the bathtub and finishes her homework.

"Do you need help?" I whisper to her and she nods,

"Can you do flashcards?" she asks and I agree, and I quiz her. When she's done she finishes off whatever she has left and I prepare myself for work the next day before we get into the bed and turn Netflix on, to go to sleep and do it all again.

We wake up 3 times during the night since Violet needs to be fed every 2 hours before we get up for real. Scarlett gets up with me, but I can't help but wonder what it would be like with Jax.
