CHAPTER 67: GAME PLAN

MITCHELL HELD TWO COFFEE CUPS IN HER HAND AS SHE ENTERED THE BULLPEN, SMILING IN THANKS AT THE AGENT WHO HELD THE DOOR OPEN FOR HER.

She approached Spencer, who was massaging his thigh and yawning at his desk. She placed the cup down gently on his desk, "I got a lot of looks when I asked for six packets of sugar in this and then went over to the counter to add even more sugar."

Spencer glanced up at her, "Why?"

"I'm just paying you back for the coffee you gave me a while ago. Not to mention it looks like you need it." Mitchell smirked, taking a sip of her own coffee before leaned against her desk, "What's got you so tired? Up late reading Russian poetry again?"

"Uh, something like that, yeah." Spencer gave her one of his awkward smiled before drinking his own coffee, "Thanks."

"No problem."

Hotch stood above them outside the conference room, "We have a case."

Everyone gathered inside and sat at the round table, reading over the file as they waited for Garcia. Mitchell furrowed her eyebrows at the sight of the bodies, all the bite marks they were covered in and the extent of decomposition that was evident.

She wondered how long they were there before someone discovered them.

It wasn't long before the blonde entered with Derek Morgan following.

"All right, let's get started." Hotch announced,

"Oh, great." Garcia sat down and sighed before clicking the button to bring the pictures onto the screen, "Ok. So, this morning, a Wisconsin park ranger discovered 3 partially buried bodies in a forest preserve just outside Milwaukee."

"Two male and one female. He doesn't appear to have a gender preference." Blake commented,

"Decomposed. They weren't all killed at the same time." Rossi stated,

"And that is why I call you eagle eye." Garcia replied, "Preliminary M. E. reports they'd each been killed about a month apart. The most recent victim, Susan Clark, has been dead approximately two weeks."

Mitchell read Susan's file, "28-year-old exotic dancer and prostitute. High-risk lifestyle." JJ read,

"What about the other two?" Mitchell asked,

"I haven't I. D.'d them yet." Garcia replied,

"'Cause of death?"

"Still working on that, too."

"Looks like they were all covered in bite marks." Morgan brought up,

"From the unsub?" JJ asked in disgust,

Mitchell raised her eyebrows, "My first cannibal case."

"Let's not assume anything yet." Hotch told her,

"The bites are most likely from critters out in the woods." Rossi responded,

"He murdered them months apart but buried them all in the exact same spot. The disposal site's obviously important to him." Reid commented,

"Susan Clark was reported missing 6 weeks ago. There were long-term ligature marks on her wrists and ankles." Hotch informed them,

"He holds them captive before he kills them." Morgan stated,

"But what exactly is he holding them for?" Blake asked,

"No sexual assault evident." Mitchell sighed, "And no obvious signs of torture that stands out. So what does he do with them?"

"That's what we need to find out. Wheels up in 30."

Mitchell looked over at Rossi, who was sitting next to her, "I have a feeling that we're not gonna like the answer to that question."

He stood and patted her arm, "We never do."

Once the team had grabbed their go bags and drove out to the air strip, they had taken off towards Wisconsin. Mitchell sat across from Rossi and next to Alex before grabbing her tablet to go through the case file while Morgan pulled up Garcia on the screen,

"My friends in an airplane, don't say I'm not a giver. I have I. D.'d the first two victims. Coming to your tablets now." She announced and everyone reached for their tablets, "First up, Milwaukee resident Melvin Lewis 50-year-old divorce and truck driver." An image of an African-American man popped up, "Next we have Rudy Hightower, a 32-year-old homeless Iraq war veteran."

"Two caucasians and an African-American. This guy doesn't have a racial preference either." Morgan commented from his spot leaning against the couch,

"There's still no connection between the victims." JJ stated,

"Is it possible that there isn't a connection?" Mitchell asked, "They could have been just targets of opportunity. And in that case it should be the M.O that we need to be focusing on and not victimology."

Spencer nodded, "It's not about who he kills, it's about how he kills them."

"Or what he does before or after he kills them." Blake added on,

"Garcia, they determine the cause of death yet?" Hotch asked the technical analyst.

"Negative."

"Each one of them was single and lived alone. Maybe he keyed in on that knowing that they wouldn't be reported missing." Morgan stated,

"Well, he'd have to stalk them long enough to know that." JJ replied,

Mitchell sighed, "This unsub clearly has an agenda. We need to figure out his game plan before he kidnaps another victim."

"Dave, you and Reid go to the coroner's office, Blake and I will coordinate with local P. D., and, JJ, I want you, Diaz, and Morgan at the disposal site." Hotch ordered and everyone nodded,
