I couldn't hold it in. I laughed so hard. It's been a while since I had such a laugh.

"Good one, Aziel."
"Why did you choose that stupid name?"

I take my eyes off the container with 'Aziel' on it and shrug as I look at him.
Can't let him know I named him after a literal container.

"Nova!" I turn to the running girl that screams my name with pure happiness.

Happiness I never had.

I crouch down and open my arms. I know she wants to hug me. Anastasia always does this.
"Hi! I'm Liam!"

My sister gets herself off me so I could face the little boy. His hand was out for me to shake.

I did. So polite. Wish I was that.
"Hi Liam. Nice to meet you!"
"I don't like him at all."

I ignore Aziel and make little chatter with the children. Wondering how my little baby does in school.

"I see you've met my brother."
I look up. I can't catch a fucking break.

I silently take Anastasia in my arms and stand up.
"I fucking knew it."
Shut up.

"Are you so desperate for my forgiveness that you sent your little brother over, Rey?"
He scoffs.

"I didn't know you were here at all. Besides our siblings are friends."
I approach him with narrowed eyes.

"I won't come in the way of their friendship. But don't near her. Got it?"
Rey shakes his head.

"See you...partner."

I spit on him.
Really showing my love for the hatred I feel for him.

"Can I choke him?" I stop walking around to look at the guy.

His hands were around his neck but not touching him.
Come on, Aziel.
He's not worth it.

"Let's go home Anastasia."

———

"So, what do you see? What do you hear? What do you feel?"

The girl doesn't respond.
"I can't help you if you don't answer."

She finally raises her eyes to the therapist. Her eyes so empty. He has never seen such a thing.

He takes a look at her file. She's on the third level. The level with the craziest ones.

"I hear my name. I feel nothing. I see them."
"What? Them?"

"Shadows, demons...everywhere."
The man notes everything on his papers.
"There are multiple?"
She shakes her head.

"Just one."
The therapist stops writing. Not understanding what the patient is blabbering about.

"Then why did you say 'them'?"
She just shakes her head. Laughing.

"You'll see doctor. You'll see..."
4 days later. He was replaced with a new therapist.

He died.

———

I take my cigarettes to the balcony.
Keep smoking. You're killing yourself.

Well shit Aziel. Where'd that negativity come from?

I breathe the smoke out and make rings with it.
"Hey babe..."
I smile at Nola.

"You okay?" I nod and breathe the ashes in again.
"You really need to stop asking me that Nola."

I look at her with a cold gaze. My friend tilts her head.
"You know I'm never okay...why keep asking me then?"

She sighs. "I'm sorry Nova. I just really want you to get better."

I shake my head. This discussion is bringing tears to my eyes.
"Nola...I'll never be better. There's only one way for me to be happy."

"What is it? I can help you, right?"

I smile at her, taking her left hand.
"You can...by letting go..."

A tear falls out of her green eye. It's the only way I can be in peace.
This world is too big.

I'm lost.
I'm sick and tired.
"It's not easy Nola, it's not easy..."

She cried that whole night next to me with her light head on my right shoulder.
Nola knows it will always end this way.

I don't see a point in being here.
She knows it.

That night she didn't try to speak some sense into me. Instead she was there for me.
Just there.

That's all I want.

"Here..."
Nola was long asleep and Aziel showed up out of nowhere.

He gave me this...bracelet?
"What is this?"

Aziel shrugs.
"I don't know. I found it so it's yours now."

I manage to smile a little through the pain.
It's a gift. This stupid demon remembers.

It's midnight. Meaning...
It's my freaking birthday.
