The drive to the campgrounds was a little less than an hour from home. It included kids that were 16-18 from neighboring towns none more than an hour away. As everyone unloaded the luggage, you stood impatiently waiting. You just wanted to grab your stuff and make a run for it before you ran into…

Dixie: *in a nervous tone*
“Y- You came.”

You: *trying to sound stern*
“Why wouldn’t I? I have nothing to be ashamed of or hide from.”

Dixie: “Please talk to m-”

The end of her plea was cut off by someone throwing a bag past you. It grazed so close to you that you stumbled backwards. Just as you could feel yourself lose balance, a pair of firm arms wrapped around you and held you upright. You turned around nervously because the look on Dixie’s face was pure shock and awe. You came face to face with a tall, muscular boy who looked like he’d spent every moment of summer so far at the beach.

His tanned arms steadied you as you looked up and were met with a smile that you were wholly unprepared for. His toned physique was completely overshadowed by the beaming smile sitting above his chiseled jawline.

Tayler: “Are you okay?”

Tayler: “Are you okay?”

You: “I- I’m-”

Tayler: *laughing sweetly at you stumbling over your words*
“I’m Tayler.”

You: “I-”

Dixie: *handing you a bag*
“This one is yours, right?”

You snatched the bag out of Dixie’s hand and rushed off before you could embarrass yourself any more. You spent a little time lost trying to find the bunk you were assigned but it was a welcomed distraction to work off the nerves you’d started the week with. When you got into your bunk, you heard the shriek of Indiana:
“Oh my God, are you in this room?”

You: “You and Mads are my roommates? Oh thank God!!”

Mads glanced towards the 4th bed that up until that moment you hadn’t noticed. It already had a bag thrown on it but there was no one but you, Mads, and Indiana in the room. Indiana seemed to hear the question you hadn’t actually asked and answered:
"There was a girl outside pacing around arguing with someone when we got here.”

Mads: “God, I hope she’s not our roommate.”

You: “You hope who isn-”

Your question was answered by Dixie storming in carrying the frustration of her argument all over her face.

Dixie: *sighing heavily*
“Great.”

Mads: “Really? YOU are the one with the nerve to be upset to bunk with me?”

You: “Nope, that was meant for me.”

Indiana: “You two know each other?”

Dixie: “We are fri-”

You: “Were. We WERE friends.”

Mads: “Judging by the bruise under your eye, it looks like you’re much better at making enemies than friends.”

You: *snarling*
“You’re welcome for that by the way.”

Dixie: “If you’re going to hit me again, just do it. I’m over this.”

Indiana jumped between you as the camp counselor bounced into the room completely unaware of what she’d walked into:
“Orientation in 30 minutes, ladies.”
