"He's just being modest, he's actually the number 3 hero!" I grin watching Keigo turn red with embarrassment. For always being so cocky, he has turned into a nervous wreck trying to impress my mom.

"Wait really? That's very impressive. Now you just need to beat that angry little red head and you'll be flying ... pun intended!" My mom said laughing at her own joke as Keigo laughed along a little too loudly, clearly trying to get on her good side.

"Cannot say I have ever heard Endevour referred to as an angry red head but I think it's my new favourite thing!" He grinned continuing to devour his plate of chicken which was distinctly void of vegetables.

"Well I just want to see someone wipe that smile off his face! But what about your parents? What do they think of your hero work? I know I'd be a nervous wreck if Kimi were in the hero business, especially with everything circulating about that Stain character at the minute!" Mom asked as I began to choke on my water resulting in both my mom and Keigo stopping to look at me. Why did she have to bring up his parents? I don't want to make him uncomfortable. Think Kimi, think!

"Well, my parents sadly passed away when I was pretty young but I like to think they would have been happy with my career choice. I mean if I weren't out patrolling I wouldn't have met my Ba-Kimi here!" Keigo said somewhat awkwardly though more at his slip up with my nickname than the topic of his parents.

My mom's eyes widened and her hand came up to cup her mouth as a whimper escaped.

"Oh you poor thing! I am so sorry dear!" Mom cried pulling Keigo into a bone crushing hug across the table. I had a clear look at his flustered face over her shoulder as he tried to figure out what to do with his hands whilst his arms were pinned to his sides, chicken leg still in hand.

"It's okay really ma'am!" He said with a deep blush as I tried to contain my laughter.

"None of this 'ma'am' talk, you call me Hana sweetie!" Mom said taking me a little by surprise. Damn I knew he was charismatic but this is ridiculous. Maybe it was because of his parents though? Mom, dad and I have always been close. The thought of not having them from such a young age was horrifying for me. But to my mom, I'm sure she was imagining what it would have been like for me to be in Keigo's circumstances and was already thinking of ways to emotionally adopt him into the family.

"Okay ma-Hana"! Keigo muttered out still clearly embarrassed by the affection he was receiving from the middle aged woman.

"Kimi why don't you grab the iPad in your old room and we can call your father, I'm sure he's excited to finally meet Keigo." My mom smiled though I could clearly see what was going on. She's trying to get me out of the room to interrogate Keigo. Should I leave them? I mean she has been nothing but nice to him so I'm sure she's not going to be too harsh on him ... hopefully.

"Sure I'll be right back!" I said looking her directly in the eye, warning her not to scare him too much, to which she just smirked and sent me a wink. God help Keigo right now.

Hawk's POV

This is nice ... slightly uncomfortable but nice. Babybird had been warning me about her mom, saying that she would be interrogating me or something but so far all she has done is fed me chicken and given me a hug. Yep I've definitely gotten her blessing.

"Sure, I'll be right back!" Kimi smiled maintaining eye contact with her mom until she left the room. I wasn't nervous in the slightest but as the door closed my breath hitched slightly. Her mom was staring me down. Not in a mean way. More like she was trying to figure me out and I'd be lying if I said it didn't put me on edge.

"I'm sorry again about your parents Keigo." She said and I tried to breath normally under her intense gaze.

"It's okay, it happened a long time ago." I smiled trying to get this conversation out of the way as quickly as possible. It's not that I don't appreciate her concern but being here, seeing her love for Kimi first hand was hitting home on how much I missed out on. Is this what it would have been like to have a mother? It's clear she loves Kimi unconditionally and they seem so comfortable around one another. I don't mean to be jealous but a part of me really wishes I had that as well.

"It doesn't make it any easier. Time can only heal so much ..." she looked off sadly and I opened my mouth to say something only to shut it again as she began to speak.

"Look Keigo I am going to be honest with you. I was expecting to have a few harsh words with you. You know, hurt my daughter and I'll rip your wings off. But you genuinely seem like a good man. You've been through a lot but it hasn't made you bitter. Plus I haven't seen my Kimiko smile like that in a long time. Just ... don't mess my baby about. She has had to deal with a lot these past few years and I'm so glad to see her happy with someone. I suppose I just want to make sure you are serious about my little girl?" She asked me with a steady unfaultering gaze that made my feathers stand on end. Jeez if this woman became a villain she'd overthrow cities.

"I love Kimi. I'm more serious about her than I am about anything in my life. I know we haven't known each other long but I'm in this for the long haul. These passed few months have been amazing and honestly ... I'm going to marry that girl one day, I know it." I smile a little lost in the thought. I can imagine Peanut as our ring bearer, though given my failed attempts to get him to say anything other than vines, I don't know if I'll be able to train him to do that.

"That's all I want to know. Well you've passed the final test so welcome to the family I suppose!" She grinned pulling me into another motherly hug as I released a breath I didn't know I was holding.

"Though if you do hurt her, I work in a hospital and I know how to make it look like an accident ..." she whispered to me and I felt myself tense up. Jeez, Kimi really wasn't kidding when she said her mom was terrifying.

"You can come out now sweetie, I'm done threatening your boyfriend!" She called as we both watched Kimi shuffle into the room with an iPad her eyebrows raised in questioning.
