Switzerland - July 2021

Her body shook, and she felt light-headed. Her hand squeezed the steering wheel tightly, knuckles turned white. 'Are we going to drive as well, or are you still in the progress of finalising the perfect route in your head? Or perhaps, are you scheming your escape route even before we actually move?' Emily's amused voice roared next to Scar, making her jump. 'Christ, Emily.' Scar shouted, lifting one of the hands on to her chest, checking if her heart had jumped out of beat.

'What is it then?' Emily's eyes shone glee when they scanned her face, making her puff in annoyance. 'The first one.' She muttered under her breath when she started the car and parked out of her front yard. She checked the navigation constantly, her fingers tapping to the steering wheel restlessly. 'Are you nervous?' Scar's finger tapping paused for a split second before it continued. Yes, petrified. 'No.' Scar heard a chuckle beside her. 'It's just Britta and us. Why would I be nervous?' Liar. 'Yeah, right. What did you get for him?' Emily asked instead to distract Scar from the trip. 'He mentioned a book he had dying to read for ages, but he hadn't managed to get a copy on time. I tracked down the book to one of the book stores in London. First edition. I hope he'll like it... What do you buy for a man who can get everything himself?'

'Something you wouldn't expect him to get from you, and the book sounds like it.' Scar felt Emily's lingering eyes on her, and she huffed. 'Whatever. He will get the dam book, and let's hope for the best.' She urged to roll her eyes, but the nerve-wracking feeling grew within her the closer their dot moved on the cheque flag on the touch screen.

When they turned to a long sanded road with trees on both sides, Emily whistled. 'Dam, this guy lives in a nice place.' Scar rolled her eyes when she focused on driving.

'Why are you here again?' Scar asked impatiently. 'Because you're scared to death to attend your boyfriend's birthday party.' Scar shot a sharp side-eye to Emily, who continued hastily with a sheepish smile on her. 'And I want to avoid my child's daddy until we survive to Silverstone.'

'And you thought of coming to Switzerland to hide for a weekend?' Scar repeated, stunned. 'Yes.' Emily's simple reply, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. 'I guess we're both equally fucked up, love.' Scar murmured while shaking her head when she curved right and parked the car in front of an old farmhouse. 'Wow.' Scar breathed when she got out of the car, eyes glued to the farmhouse in front of her.

Her legs got glued on the spot when the front door flew open, and a pair of screaming blond girls run through the front door, chasing each other across the lawn. Scar's eyes widened when Seb followed behind them, yelling at them in German whilst she stared at the events before her. 'Em, Liv!' He urged them to calm down when he had managed to catch up with them. 'Daddy, stop. Daddy!!' one of the girls wiggled on his crip when he tickled her, and screams echoed at the quiet yard.

The blood had vanished from her face and turned her pale when she heard the girls calling him. He's a dad. He has two kids. Her eyes popped out, and she hastily turned around to dive back into the car. 'Scar?' Shit, shit, shit... She turned around slowly, an unsure smile tucked on her lips. 'Surprise?'

Scar felt Emily's mile-long eye roll on her when her friend had walked towards Seb, said 'happy birthday.' Then, she grabbed the girls from him. 'Girls, shall we have a look where the cake is hidden? I'm dying of seeing it.' The joyful chatter followed them inside, leaving Scar stand by the car, other hand squeezing tightly against the door handle. Seb stood a few metres ahead of her.

Her eyes diverted from her car to him, who was slowly walking towards her. 'It's good to see you, love.' His eyes swam in light, which uneased the knot on her chest for an inch. She relaxed under his gaze and replied softly. 'You too, darling.' They shared a chuckle as the Austrian Grand Prix had been the weekend before, and they had spent any possible free time together.
