Livorno, Italy - December 2021

It was a dream-like situation. Everything was dark and silent, and there was no breathing soul close by. Golden strokes broke the darkness, lighting the pitch black to twilight. Her face curved upwards, and she slowly broke the surface with a splash and gasp of crisp air. She swam closer to the beach until she could walk to the shore and drop down to a towel on a beach, wrapping herself with another to protect herself from the cool air.

It was a mild day with a partly cloudy sky, sun flirting behind the clouds at times. She briefly closed her eyes to enjoy the winter sun on her skin. She listened to the waves hitting the shore before she popped her eyes open, looking at the dark water before her. Dipping into the water had become part of her morning routine that she had learned to do in the past five weeks. The five weeks also translated to five weeks of radio silence from a person she thought would never do anything to betray or hurt her.

She was miserable as she didn't know where they stood with each other.

Her phone's alarm cut the air to signal the time was up, and she sighed. The me-time was over, and she was back to mummy duty along with her work. The existing topic made her mood sourer. She took a bride in her work ethic. When Alex was brought into her life, she was forced to adjust and juggle with her private and work-life. She was amazed at how willing Graham was to ensure she could keep the full-time work and how helpful he was to let her do her work remotely as long as she got the job done. She was forever grateful to him.

With a sigh, she dressed up, gathered her items and began her chuckling trip through the picturesque slight town tug away from busy tourist cities nearby. Her lips curved up when she greeted and nodded to business owners who were opening their doors when she passed. She crossed Piazza Della Vittoria that was already filled with tourists with their cameras. She stopped by to order morning coffees on the go.

'Sweetie, I'm home.' Scar sang in a cheerful voice after she had entered through the threshold. The house was quiet, which made her concerned. Alex was usually up by then, screaming of hunger. She left the coffees at the kitchen counter was and walked towards her bedroom where Alex was sleeping.

She pushed the door open. 'What-'

'SHHHH!' A sharp sus echoed the soft green walls. Emily put Alex back to the baby crib before ushering Scar out of the room. 'What's going on? Where's Elena?' Scar asked in confusion when Emily escorted the pair into the kitchen, looking over her shoulder to check whether she was followed. 'She's busy. Alex was fussy for a moment, so I thought he could sleep in. Cara is sleeping right now, so I had extra time.' Scar hugged Emily gratefully before they slipped out of the terrace to continue their morning coffee moment.

By default, Scar made herself cosy in one of the armchairs. In contrast, Emily sat down on the sofa after she handed over the coffee to Scar. 'How was the beach this morning?'

'Quiet, just the way I like it.' Emily nodded and took a sip of her coffee. Scar mirrored her actions, closing her eyes to savour the familiar savour feeling that hit in. 'So... We have guests coming in soon.' Emily said casually, but her concerned and varied tone of voice made Scar suspicious. 'What did you do, Em?' Emily's cheeks turned pink. 'It's Dan... We have been talking for a while, and we may or may have not kissed after Cara was born.'

'So he's coming over to catch up with you?' A teasing glee washed over Scar's eyes when blushing Emily nodded bashfully. 'Sweetie, he's always welcome. I can make myself scared for hours if needed.' She gave a cheeky wink to her scarlet red friend. 'Stop it.' Emily murmured and hide her face behind her coffee bug. Scar laughed. 'Alright, alright. I'll let you off the hook. When is Dan coming?'
