chapter 26 - the inevitable

Katerina exhaled deeply as she woke up, yawning. She looked around the room.

Her head was pounding heavily.

Katerina groaned as she stretched.

Today was the final task. She definitely shouldn't have drank last night.

Katerina walked over to her mirror, looking at herself.

She looked as if she woke up from the dead.

Katerina heard a knock on her door. She walked slowly to her door opening it.

Hermione and Ginny walked into her room, collapsing on the bed.

"Last night was horrible." Hermione yawned. "I lost my favorite bra."

"I can't even remember half of it." Ginny mumbled.

Katerina's eyes widened as she recalled what happened in the dark closet.

Although she couldn't recall anything that happened after that.

"How did I get here?" Katerina shut the door.

"You're asking the wrong people." Ginny rubbed her eyes.

"This was at your door." Hermione held up a small envelope. Katerina grabbed it, looking at it.

"Who's it from?" Ginny questioned.

"Dunno. There's no name." Katerina opened it slowly.

Katerina pulled out the gold necklace that George had given her for her birthday.

Katerina bit her lip, setting it down on her desk.

"Are you going to keep it?" Ginny looked at Katerina.

"I can't think about that now. I have to get ready." Katerina turned, walking into the bathroom.

The crowd cheered loudly as the music played, Katerina walked in beside Dumbledore, with an empty expression.

"Professor Moody, placed the cup, deep within the maze. Only he knows the exact position. Now as Mr. Diggory and Miss Bennett." All of Gryffindor cheered loudly. "Tied. They will be the first to enter the maze, followed by Mr. Krum and Miss Delacour"

Katerina looked around the stadium, her head aching from the screams.

She turned seeing Fred, Hermione, Harry, Ron, Ginny, and George cheering her on.

Katerina smiled softly, bowing her head at them.

Ginny held Hermione as they watched Katerina.

"First person to touch the cup will be the winner!" Dumbledore screamed. Dumbledore went on to explain what the maze had inside.

Katerina walked to the entrance.

She turned and smiled weakly at Cedric who smiled back.

"I'll see you on the other side." Cedric smiled warmly.

"I'll be the first one there." Katerina smirked as Cedric rolled his eyes.

"We'll see about that, Bennett."

The cannon went off.

Katerina walked into the dark maze. It was silent.

All she could hear was her breathing and her footsteps.
