Vlad pov
________
Dmitri Baranov would never be my real father. He may have raised me from the time I was a pup, but the blood in my veins didn't belong to him. I had that man to thank for my bitterness.

I put up with him, day after day, for the sole purpose of gaining back control over my father's pack. Dmitri had polluted bloodvenom's once pristine reputation. We didn't used to be known as a pack of bloodthirsty, cold blooded murderers. We were the noblest, and most valiant wolves in the territory. The packs undoing had all been because of him.

I had played along with his plans diligently, like only a loyal son could. I didn't think he suspected anything, oblivious to the battle that had been brewing for years. A battle he had created. The crescent ball was tonight and Dmitri had given specific instructions.

Find a mate. Reject anyone who did not fit the specific requirements. If failed to do so, your chosen would be slaughtered on the spot.

It irritated me at how much control Dmitri currently had over me. He already controlled every aspect of my life, and now he was telling me how to marry. He would be dead soon. I needed to play along, to catch him off guard.

Maybe if Dmitri was stupid enough, he'd be the cause of his own undoing. Either way my "father's" reign was soon coming to an end. It was all just a matter of time.

My wolf, Mikhail, hated seeing someone else take what was ours just as much as I did.

His time will come.. Mikhail snarled.

"Patience." I whispered, more to myself than my wolf.

I stood in the mirror, studying the dark Armani suit that Dmitri had selected for all his men tonight. The only difference in mine was the crimson sash laced in gold that draped across the front. It was an ancient tradition for the events that were to happen tonight. The ball of the crescent moon. The sacred gala of mates. Or more commonly known as "the crescent ball."

I stiffened when a familiar scent filled my nostrils. It was just a sour as the man it belonged to.

"Dmitri." I huffed.

"Must you always address me by my first name son?" He said, speaking in our native Russian language.

I hated when he called me that, and he knew it too. When I ignored him, he walked over to the place I was standing.

"I trust you're ready for tonight?" He asked with a sick smirk on his face.

I knew he wasn't referring to me finding my mate.

"It's not like I have a choice." I muttered. Refusing to look at him, I focused on straightening my bow tie in the mirror.

He growled lowly at that last remark, but said nothing more.

"You know it has to be done." Dmitri patted my shoulder.

I struggled to hide my resentment toward Dmitri's insane plan.

Assassinate the razorbite Alpha.

Take out the one threat that stood in his way. The only leader that was potentially strong enough to resist him..and he wanted me to do it.

"Hurry it up, the men are downstairs waiting." He said.

I suppressed my wolf's urge to claw his eyeballs out. Soon..

Dmitri walked out of the room, his stale sent trailing after him.

****

The crisp scent of vodka and marijuana hung in the air. The bloodvenom suite came readily equipped with all the essential werewolf necessities. The small room was to be the makeshift "meeting place" for tonight.

Vernon and Sergei stood by the main intrance, not bothering to conceal the pistols they carried. Alexei, my half-brother, was hard at work sampling all the alcohol. Dmitri was nowhere to be seen, which couldn't be a good thing.

"Mm do you smell that?" Alexei said, coming up behind me.

"Gin and tonic?" I cocked a brow.

"That's not what I meant." He grumbled.

I inhaled the air deeply, picking up the faint scent of perfume. I rolled my eyes. Women.

"We'll have quite the selection tonight brother." Alexei said, rubbing his hands together.

I ignored my brothers implications. Alexei needed to stay focused on the task at hand, and not get so easily distracted.

"I think that's enough alcohol." I say, trying to pry his fingers from the cup.

"Hey that's not fair!" Alexei pouted.

I rolled my eyes. He always was the childish one.

The door to the suite flew open with a bang. All of us immediately stopped what we were doing, our attention on the man who was now standing in the doorway.

Oleg.

My father's guard looked pale in the face, and was panting heavily. What could it possibly be now?

"Y-your father-"

"Spit it out." Alexei said.

"Follow me, he said it's urgent."

I patted Alexei on the shoulder, telling him to stay put. Whatever was going on, needed to stay between me and Dmitri. The less people involved, the better.
