I stood still, keeping my back turned to the man that stood in the doorway.

"I-I got lost..I promise I wasn't.." I was cut off by an angry growl. The tension in the room was so thick, not even a knife could cut it. I could feel his angry stare burning into the back of my skull.

I hadn't even realized I'd been holding my breath, and my lungs were screaming for oxygen. Hesitantly, I released my pent up breath, trying in vain not to make gasping sounds. Fear radiated off of me in waves, and I know he could probably smell it.

"P-please don't hurt me.." I said timidly. There was no way I was about to turn around and face this dangerous man. His aura dripped with dominance and power. Definitely an Alpha.

"Good. You should fear me." He said. I could hear the sneer in his voice. I took a small step forward, trying to put some distance between me and this Alpha.

"Look at me." It wasn't a suggestion, it was a command. I did as I was told.

Slowly, I turned my body around to where he stood, blocking the doorway. I kept my eyes averted to the floor, not daring to look steal a glance at this stranger.

"I said look at me." He sighed, annoyance in his tone.

Slowly, I allowed my eyes to trail up the Alpha's large frame. His dark eyes found my hazel ones, and my soul felt like it was on fire. It was almost painful. Whether it was from fear or something more sinister I didn't know.

He looked down at me with a look of curiosity, and...satisfaction? Now that I found the courage to look at him, I couldn't stop. He had jet black hair that suited him, complimented with a prominent stubbled jawline. As scary as he was, he was beautiful. The drunk men in the ballroom had nothing on him.

"Like what you see?" He asked, emotionless.

"I- uh" My eyes were probably bugging out of my head at this point, and I knew looked ridiculous.

He laughed. More of a sound than a chuckle. It was so quiet, that for a second I thought I'd imagined it.

He stiffened, suddenly becoming even more serious.

"What is a young girl like yourself doing wandering around back here? It isn't safe for anyone to be going off alone, especially during a night like tonight." He cocked a dark brow, clearly suggesting that it wasn't safe to be with him.

Who does this man think he is?..My wolf was beginning to lose her patience, as was I.

"Well actually, I was looking for the bathroom..so if you'll kindly excuse me I need to-" I quit talking when another angry growl echoed through the cramped room. He crossed his arms, clearly trying to intimidate me. And it was working.

"I don't think that's a good idea." He huffed, accent thick.

I was feeling a million things at once; Fear, anxiety, stress. My wolf howling for control, ready to tear this man apart.

I released a growl of my own. It was a shy warning to the dominant Alpha. He knew I was no real threat to him, and the only way I could get out of here was if he'd let me.

"Just let me leave..I won't tell anyone about seeing you ..Just please."  I sounded like a small whining child.

He stayed put, looking down at me with an unconvinced look playing across his features.

"I'll let you leave, but on one condition. You will allow me to escort you back." He said.

Inwardly I cringed. I didn't want to be seen anywhere with this man.. I wanted to be away from him, not having him touch me. What if my potential mate saw? My one stupid mistake could ruin everything.

"Okay." I whispered, unable to look at him again.

"Smart girl." He said, gesturing for me to take his hand.

The arrogant Alpha seemed to enjoy watching me squirm. I gulped, hesitantly reaching for his outstretched hand.

I took a step closer, placing my tiny palm into his much larger one. Before I could even blink, sparks erupted from his touch. It was painful, awakening a buried sense within me. My wolf howled so loudly, It felt like my eardrums would bust. The most amazing smell filled my nostrils, and I couldn't help but close my eyes and take it all in.

The Alpha's dark eyes widened in disbelief, and a low protective grumble came from his lips.

"Mate."
