Bill was turning off the lights in the living room, when Nanny Dove appeared. She looked at the dining room table that held the gold and jewels from Tuckamore County.
"Dat be cursed, Willam."
Bill walked to the table.
"It is just gold, Nanny. There is no curse around it."
Nanny Dove sighed.
"Ise 'eard da talkin' youse and da others were havin'. Dere bes doubts, Willam."
Bill sat at the dining room table, staring at the treasure.
"It is just coins and shiny rocks, Nanny."
Nanny Dove shook her head.
"It bes a curse, Willam. Ise told dat Silas Williams dat ifin 'e tells youse about dis Ise ..."
Bill cut her of.
"You will do nothing."
Nanny Dove stared at Bill.
Bill took a deep breath.
"I know you are concerned about me and Matty and our baby, but, I don't believe in curses. This place has taught me that you make your own destiny. The people of the Bay are not going to fight over this. Compared to what they have now, this is shit.
And to tell the truth, if they want the gold, they can have it. I don't need it."
Bill thought for a moment.
"I love you, Nanny Dove and I just wish I had met you while you were still alive. And I know your greatest fear is for Matty, but you have to realize that now, Matty is no longer your responsibility."
"She bes always my responsibility."
