'You can't or you won't?'

'I won't.' A sarcastic laugh filled the air. 'Too bad, love. I'm using this bloody pregnancy card as long as I can. Also, I can cry in command these days. If you don't want to deal with a hormonal mess on your doorsteps, spill the beans, and get me a fucking spot to sit. My ankles are killing me.'

The pair walked to the closest rock that Emily was able to sit down. She looked so relieved when she got the weight off her feet. 'This pregnancy will be the death of me.' Emily stated dramatically, waving her hand in front of her face for an attempted cooldown. Scar landed an affectionate look towards her. 'You look radiating, Emily. The pregnancy glow suits you.'

'Yeah, right. C'mon. I need the distraction from the pain and tiredness. Humour me here, please.'

Scar hovered above Emily, playing with her fingers, moving them back and forth, attempting to buy time. She knew she wouldn't be able to escape from Emily's integrations, so she eventually gave in and sighed. 'He makes me insecure.' Emily huffed, making Scar furrow her eyebrows. 'You told me to share.' She defended herself. 'Scar, he doesn't make you feel insecure. You're scared as he has crawled under your skin and left a mark. You must lust him, or you have already fallen in love with him fully.'

Scar was so happy that it was a sunny and hot day, so she could claim her scarlet red cheeks were due to a sunburn instead of the third degree Emily was giving her.

'I don't fancy him.' She murmured weakly. She couldn't fancy him. When would she have started to want him more than a fuckbuddy? Amid the climaxes when they were tangled in the sheets? In-between the heated arguments? Or somewhere in-between? A gasp escaped from her lips, and she met Emily's smug look. 'I was right, was I?' Emily's triumph annoyed Scar. 'No.' She stubbornly denied any potential feelings in her.

She had worn off from love and affection after her beyond messy divorce that had scarred her. She didn't want to be rejected again. However, she knew deep down she was lying to herself about her feelings. Her body betrayed her; the flushed cheeks, fastly beating heart, drumming in her ears, goosebumps on her skin and butterflies in her stomach.

'Relax, darling. I'm just teasing you. You look like someone passed away.' Emily stated matter of factly whilst she pushed herself to her feet. 'Okay. The baby has announced that it needs a potty break. I saw a cute little place on the way up. I would also need some refreshment to cool me down.' Scar nodded mechanically as Emily's words rang in her ears but snapped back to present when Emily's questions reached her. 'What are you going to do when you see Seb this weekend?'

Scar smirked at Emily, looping her arm through Emily when they began their stroll down. 'What makes you think I'll run into him this weekend?' Emily huffed, and an amusing look swam in her eyes. 'I'm going to die of laughter this weekend, aren't I?'

Their eyes locked, and they burst into laughter. 'Probably.' Scar grinned. 'I'll do my best to avoid any awkward encounters.' They had continued down the route for a while. After hesitation, Emily said softly, her eyes glued to the road ahead of the pair. 'So, I have been thinking... I'm gonna quit my job at Lewis' Press Officer after Silverstone. It's time to move on.'

'YOU'RE GONNA DO WHAT?!'

**

When the friends entered the paddock on Sunday, they were engaged with a heated whisper-yell argument on Emily's decision to quit her job in F1. They were running late as Scar had dealt with communications matters for the lower series from their hotel room in the morning before their requested in-person presence at the track.

'How can you just quit?' Scar hissed when they strolled forward. 'I can't lie forever, Scar. You know this... Also, you know my endless failed attempts to share the news with the baby daddy and his opinion on having children. Soon, my baby pump is pushing out. I can't just claim nonstop that I'm gaining weight. I've always been lean. Eventually, gaining weight is not believable anymore. Be serious, love. I will tell him I have found another job that I couldn't pass on and decided to go ahead with. I already informed Mercedes about it. The background preparation has begun, but no one is allowed to share it with Lewis yet. I'll tell him after Silverstone. It's easier to stay behind when we're home. I need to leave.' Emily emphasised the last words slowly and clearly, giving Scar a pointy side look, making Scar sigh. 'I know... I just hoped you would stay around, that's all. I'm gonna miss having you with me during the race weekends.'
