"And who might this pretty thing be?" A man with blonde hair asks and places his hand on the smal of my back.

"Thing?" I spat at him.

"Oh a feisty one." He starts laughing.

I give him a look then just as I was about to walk away I feel a strong arm gripping me around the waist and pull me away from the young man.

"This pretty lady is my wife, Kate." Peter says.

"I heard , I heard. Funny how you know each other about a month then decide to get married." He says with a smirk I'd like to wipe off with my fist.

"Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think that's got anything to do with you." I say but feel Peter gripping me a little tighter.

"Peter. Alan." Someone greets. My heart stop and my legs almost gives in underneath me but Peter was fast to grab me before I lose balance.

"And my lovely daughter in law." He says holding his hand out for me to take.

With a shaking hand I force my own toward his. He gets hold of my fingers and slowly lifting it to his mouth, every second that passes feels like an eternity. The whole time he gives me an intense stare that sickens me.

He's a sick man. Making deals with drug dealers and when he doesn't get what he wants he gets to keep the person's oldest or only child. Girls were used until he got a new one and boys had to join his gang or they died, slowly and painfully.

My father had once spoken about Mr. McGregor, saying it was a close childhood friend and now they are in the same line of work. Guess that went sideways.

My father wasn't always a bad man. He was so nice when I was younger but then things got tough, life got expensive then he turned to illegal stuff like selling stolen guns, drug trafficking and he was involved in slavery.

My mum always said something bad was going to happen one day, who knew how right she was.

"Mr. McGregor." I say and take my hand out of his grasp.

"Father." Peter greets and then looks back at who I assume is Alan.

"I don't hope the two of you are starting again." He warns them.

"Never my good sir, how have you been?" Alan takes hold of Mr. McGregor's arm and leads him away, but not before winking at me.

Peter's hold on my waist gets too tight and I let out a gasp.

"Sorry." Peter says immediately releasing me.

He then turns his back to me and rush out of the ballroom.

I then make my way to the food table, in my right hand I have a plate and start plating with the left hand. Small bread rolls, two slices of gammon, some noodle salad, sweet patatoes and just a little slice of chocolate cake. Just as I was about to walk further something catch my eye and I see it was Peter arguing with a beautiful blonde girl. He was swinging his arms up and down and she would also do the same but then pinch her nose time and again.

There were small tables in the corner of the room so I leave them be and make my way towards there.

While I eat I couldn't help but still stare at them, Peter really looked upset while she just rolls her eyes and crosses her arms.

At one point he just stood there staring at her. He said nothing and did nothing he just looked at her while she kept rambling on about whatever the argument went over. He really tried but it didn't seem to work, I wonder who she might be.

Alan comes from behind the blonde girl and holds her by the waist. Guess I know now who she is. Alan points his finger into Peter's face and I see his face turns a bright red and before I blinked my eyes Peter push him right on the nose. Alan falls backwards pulling the blond girl with him.

The woman began to scream and the men rushed toward the two men who now got into a heavy fight. They basically tear them apart from one another.

Peter shake himself free from the men and turns walking away. I stand up and rush after him.

When I got outside I didn't see him, I was about to think he had left me but then I see him standing near a small bench quite far away from the house overlooking a river.

I walk up to him and stand beside him.

"Are you okay?" I ask soft.

"Leave." He says in a harsh tone.

I said nothing back I just sat on the bench. I closed my eyes and the sound of water running and splashing in between fills my ears. It's so peaceful.

The bench crack a little and I knew Peter sat next to me.

"I'm you wife, I was supposed to be the first one by your side. People know that Peter. So tell me, how am I supposed to look like a real wife if you shut me out?" I ask cutting straight to the point.

"You're not my wife." He says angrily.

"This says otherwise." I say pussing my hand  in his face showing my wedding band.

He grabs my hand and took the ring off.

"This is complete bullshit! I don't even know why you're trying so hard, hate me! Look at what I did to you!" He yells at me then throws my ring into the river.

I stand up and walk until I'm right in front of Peter. I look up at him but this time I'm not afraid, I'm not intimidated.

"I'm nice because I thought you would help me, I was nice because I have nowhere else to go, but don't worry, I'll be out of your hair in no time." I say as a tear slide down my cheek and I walk over to the car that brought us.
