The reception was a blur. Scar sat on a couch, people attempting to speak to her. Her best effort was nodding her head, flashing an uneasy smile here and there when she received the condolences. She sipped her glass of wine, refilled it when it was empty. She wasn't sure if she had moved on the tipsy side, as she didn't want to think nor feel anything. Her stomach grumbled, but she didn't feel the hunger. She felt numb. Seb hadn't let go of her hand during the reception.

He was her save heaven, especially when she had to deal with Emerson's parents' majority of the day, which had made her groan internally. She was aware that his parents were never the biggest fan of her, and their chilly behaviour hadn't changed at all, even if they were at their son's funeral. 'I'm so sorry for your loss.' She had mumbled when she had greeted Emerson's mum on their arrival and address her condolences. 'Thank you, darling.' The crisp response was a slap against her face, yet she remained a sad smile on her face to signal her grief as well.

Emerson's father stayed on his usual stone face self when she gave the condolences to him. The grunted response made her feel incredibly lost, and Seb had escorted her away from them courtly but not too far away.

Their looks travelled past her before the mother had blurred. 'Who is the gentlemen next to you?' She had jumped as she had forgotten she had brought Seb with her. Her eyes travelled from their laced fingers to his blue eyes. He looked at her curiously, waiting for her to lead. 'This is Seb. We're dating.'

The mum had huffed. She extended her hand to greet him and flashed a polite smile when Seb expressed his condolences. The angry tears pushed past her eyelids when she had witnessed friendlier conversation and treatment towards a stranger than her. The earlier events had risen to her mind. Suddenly she didn't want to stay near them. The air was sucked out of her lungs when the hurt surpassed again.

She began her travelling towards the terrace and strolled to the magnificent garden that was the pride and joy of Emerson's mum. 'You okay?' She turned around to meet Seb standing behind her, worry noticeable on his face. 'Yeah, I just needed a moment.' She said quietly, kept going further into the garden since she had been there at times and knew some hidden spots in there. She had her favourite place hidden in plain sight.

She needed a breather of the pitiful looks, empty words and accusing looks towards her. 'Emerson and I came here often... Despite the fact, his parents weren't impressed by his choice for his wife.' Her chuckle was weak when she relived the moments when she had walked through the threshold, expecting to walk into a Cinderella story. Yet, she had turned out to be a real-life Cinderella in their mind, Emerson being the Prince Charming, but his mother being the evil stepmother.

'They aren't the biggest fans of women who are determined and speak for their mind. They saw me as a threat to their golden boy's success.' She murmured, hoping Seb would follow her when they entered into a labyrinth, her fingers tracing the tree fence, scratching her fingertips. 'Hence we have never been close. They probably celebrated when Emerson and I announced our divorce.' Her chuckle was bitter, and the tears dropped to her cheeks when her thoughts returned to her ex-husband.

A firm crib on her elbow forced her to turn around. Seb's hand moved slowly downwards until their fingers were laced together, the familiar heat radiating through their intervened hands, butterflies appearing to her stomach. 'Would it be a cliche if I told you I know exactly how you feel?' Seb's eyes were in agony, and she gasped. 'How selfish of me. Of course. We can leave any point -' Seb grabbed on her lips gently and pushed them together. 'Good to know you are also able to talk diarrhoea.' He chuckled weakly. 'I'm fine, love. Today is about you. Okay?' She nodded her head, and he slowly let go of her fingers before pressing a tender kiss to her lips.
