Dedicated to Nnaah-ina Basintale.

"OMG Shenelle it's twelve thirty, we'll be late ,Hurry and get dressed,"Auntie Naana now bitten by reality screamed out .

With the speed of lightening Shenelle rushed to get ready. She freshened up and slipped into a simple pair of jeans, a plain white top and pink sneakers to match. If there is anything high school thought her, it's definitely dressing quickly. She was done in a matter of seconds.

The drive to the Korle-Bu teaching Hospital was rather a silent one. Shenelle hardly said a word and all she did was to stare out the window.

The only thing that could be heard was the shouting of trotro mates in a rhythmic way.
(Commercial car assistants)

"Accla! secsecsec Acclaa!.....
Acclaaa! secsecsec Acclaaa!!!......"

( Accra, kwame Nkrumah Interchange— places in Ghana).

The cries of street hawkers under the scorching sun couldn't be left unnoticed. Life is indeed the survival of the fittest.

"We're here"....Auntie Naana exclaims breaking the silence and waking Shenelle up from a long chain of thoughts.

As usual the hospital was teeming with patients hoping to get a lasting solution to their ailments.

Korle-Bu is the hub of treatment in Ghana. Patients all over the country and around the diaspora are referred for treatment. It was no surprise that the hospital was busy.

After ages of manuevering through the chaotic hospital, they finally arrived at the National Cardiovascular Unit of the hospital.

This was Shenelle's second home so she familiarized herself with the posters, pictures, objects and even faces of some personnel.

She couldn't help but stare at Auntie Naana who had left to the counter to make arrangements for her appointment.

Auntie Naana was her mom's best friend. Well technically her mom never said that but it was so obvious. She was the only one who came visiting aside her mom's employees. Shenelle's Mom was a very secretive person so very few knew her to the extent of visiting.
Auntie Naana has been there through thick and thin even, through the moment Shenelle's mom miscarried her first pregnancy.

Shenelle wondered why she usually referred to her as Auntie, Since they don't look alike and they are from different tribes, So they weren't related in anyway. The bond was indeed tight and to the entire Walker family Auntie Naana was more than family.

"Ohemaa we'll have to wait a bit", Auntie Naana said bringing Shenelle back to earth.

Shenelle saw this coming but the mention of it just wanted her to varnish. Here in Ghana, hospital queues are the most devastating things to be caught up in.

After an hour of pressing phones, starring at the ceiling, puffing undertone, grumbling undertone and observing patients arguing on who came before who and who joined the queue illegally, it was finally their Turn to meet the doctor.

"Shenelle Baaba Walker and Mrs Walker, welcome,"The Doctor greeted cordially still gazing at his huge files. He looked worn-out but that couldn't hide how good-looking he was.

"Shenelle Baaba Walker and Mrs. Naana Adu Gyamfi, thank you very much", Auntie Naana replied with some sass.

"Oh my Bad",He replied putting on his glasses for a better gaze. "Do have a seat".

"Shenelle, good to have you back here. I'm new here that is why, perhaps you're wondering where Dr. Nortey is. Don't worry I've been adequately briefed about you, and you have no worries."

Shenelle gave a cute curtsey smile in response to what the doctor said. Dr. Nortey has been their family doctor for years. He is the special doctor in charge of her condition.

"What I need you to do is to take some tests at the lab, then we can get back to business. Shenelle do you have any pains anywhere or is there something you think I should know", the Doctor asked scribbling the tests required on a piece of paper.

"Oh yeah that, I feel much better and Yhup all good," Shenelle replied casually.

The Doctor then used his stethoscope to check her heartbeat.

"But Doctor I must confess this whole process is tiring ooo, We had to queue for a whole hour just to see you and now we have to go and queue again to get some tests done...Asem ooo Ghanaman (Ghana people)", Auntie Naana who was quiet for a bit, gushed out in exasperation.

"Haha, Don't worry we will get some systems in place to curb that",The Doctor who was totally amused at her boldness replied.

If there was anything to admire about Auntie Naana then it is definitely her bold and outspoken spirit. She always spoke out!!!

Doing the test was more stressful than ever. There were lots of tests to take, since it was a general Checkup.

Throughout the process, Auntie Naana complained bitterly about the queues over and over again. Shenelle couldn't help but frown through it all.

After enduring this, they were back in the doctor's office.

This time with an unexpected guest.
