Catalina Kyle

I opened my eyes. I was in a hospital room. Why was I in a hospital room? On my right, a boy was sitting in a chair. He had black hair and was wearing a hoodie under another jacket. His elbows were on his knees and his face was in his hands. At the end of my bed, sat a blonde woman in a purple jacket and a dark haired man in a suit. "Excuse me." I managed to croak out. The boy looked up and the man and woman both stood up and came to my side.

"Oh, Cati! Thank gods." The woman tried to grab my hand but I pulled it away. The woman frowned. "Are you ok?" She asked, sitting on the edge of my bed. Her eyes were green.

"I-I don't know..." The boy tried to grab my hand as well but I pulled it away again. Why were these strangers trying to grab my hand? The man's eyebrows furrowed together. Unlike the boy or the woman, his face didn't show much emotion. He must have been good at hiding what he was thinking. When he spoke, his voice was softer than I expected.

"Do you know who we are?" He asked. I shook my head. Pain was starting to throb behind my right temple. The boy's and the woman's eyebrows rose.

"Cat, what do you mean you don't know us?" The boy asked. He had blue eyes and they were filled with concern. I shook my head again, wincing slightly with the motion.

"I'm sorry, but I think you may have the wrong room." The man looked at me evenly.

"And why is that?" Annoyance at his question rose up but was beaten down with confusion. I didn't know him. Why was I annoyed?

"Because my name isn't Cat." I answered but then I frowned. "At least, I don't think it is." The woman looked from me to the man and back again with thinly veiled horror on her face. The man looked down at the woman.

"I'm going to go grab a doctor." He left the room. The woman stood up, as if to follow him. Then she turned back around and sat down on the bed again.

"Sweetie, what do you remember?" I was quiet. It was weird. I know I had memories and I know that I'd clearly been living. But I couldn't remember one goddamn thing since I woke up. I let out a frustrated sigh. The boy was watching my face carefully.

"You don't remember anything, do you?" The woman shot him a look.

"How could you know that?" She hissed at him. I felt defensive.

"No, he's right. I'm sorry but I've got nothing but waking up." The woman reached for my hand again but then just clutched it to her chest instead.

"Please try harder, sweetie." She pleaded. The man returned with another man in a white coat.

"I don't think it's going to do any good, Selina." The man said. The woman, Selina glared at him.

"Oh, and you're suddenly an expert on how her mind works now? You don't know the first thing about her, Bruce." The doctor moved around my bed and checked one of the hanging charts on the wall. Then he turned to look at me.

"You don't even have your name?" I shook my head. He noticed me wincing and squinted at me slightly. "Headache?" I nodded.

"Beginning to get one, sir." He chuckled slightly.

"There's no need to sir me. I'm going to take a look at a few more of your charts and I'll send a nurse up her with some meds for you. For the time being, you just lay there and relax. Let someone know if stuff starts to come back to you." Selina turned a furious eye on Bruce.

"This is all your fault." The doctor, who had just made it to the doorway, paused.

"Ms Kyle, if you and Mister Wayne could continue your conversation out here, I'm sure Catalina would appreciate it." The doctor held the door open and seething Selina stormed out of the room followed by an emotionless Bruce. The doctor winked at me before closing the door. I sighed and leaned my head back against my pillow.

"That didn't do much." I muttered. "I can still hear her screaming at him." The boy chuckled.

"Yeah. She has very good reason to not be happy with either Bruce or I at the moment." I hummed then opened one eye.

"I caught everyone else's name. What's yours?" The boy looked at me with a pained expression. It only took me a few seconds to guess why. "I was somebody important to you, wasn't I? And now, I can't even tell you your name." He nodded and looked down at the floor for a moment.

"You could say that. You were kinda my girlfriend." I winced.

"I'm so sorry. Now I wish even more I could remember you."
