I meet Lucas at the entrance to the library for our study plans. It's a Thursday night so the week is almost over.
He greets me with a smile. "Hey, why don't we find a spot on the second floor today?"
"Sounds good." I murmur, before following him up the stairs.
"I just figured from our experience from last time, you will be talking my ear off, and I don't want to interrupt people who might be actually taking their studying seriously." He says poking fun.
Shaking my head to hid my smile, I mutter under my breath. "You're annoying."
We make it up to the second floor and get our things situated at a table.
"So, how was your day?" Lucas asks.
"Stressful! I have three tests in the week after next." I say irritated. "Why teachers think it's a good idea to all give tests at the same time? I don't know!"
"You're probably already prepared" he says encouraging me, "but just don't know it." He chuckles, "plus you have plenty of time to prepare yourself if you aren't."
"You're probably right." I say reluctantly. "I just have a lot coming up. This weekend I am having movie night with the girls and am going to attempt to relax. Next week I have a meeting almost every day for different organizations. Then next weekend I am going home because I promised Colton, I would visit him for his birthday." I say overwhelmed. "I'm just afraid I'm not going to have time to study."
He nods his head. "Well, let's plan to meet up a few times next week. I'll make sure you study." He offers a comforting smile.
"That would be great. Thank you." I smile gratefully as I open my textbook.
"So..." he says shyly, "you and Colton are?"
I mentally slap myself. "Nothing really. It's complicated."
"He's not the ex, though right?" he asks.
I shake my head. "Do you know him?"
"Yeah, we've hung out a few times. He's cool." He says calmly.
I scrunch my face, "I'm sorry, is this weird?"
He laughs, "no. Friends talk about things like this." He says indifferently.
"I never asked how your days was!" I say happily changing the subject.
"Not too bad." He smiles. "I had a test the other day and got an A, so I think I deserve ice cream or something. If only I had someone to go with..." He teases.
"Lucas, you had me at ice cream." I laugh. "What about tomorrow after class?"
"Deal. Now shhh this is a library." he whispers jokingly. "less talking more studying." He winks at me.
I roll my eyes at him and he chuckles.
We both spend time studying. After about an hour, Lucas decides to bother me.
"Lorraine, I'm bored." He says making a fuss. "Give me attention."
"I suppose I could take a break." I shrug.
"I have a question for you." He says.
"I may have an answer." I say sarcastically.
"Why do you want to do oncology?" he asks.
"Do you think we're close enough for this?" I tease.
Now he rolls his eyes. That's my thing!
"I've just had quite a few family members that have suffered from cancer. My grandpa passed away from liver cancer when I was in high school and it was tough. The whole time I just wished there was something I could do. And now my grandma is suffering from skin cancer."
