~ time skip: April 16 ~

Hercules's POV

As the days trickled by gradually, I started noticing... a shift, essentially. In Alex. It wasn't an attitude change towards us, but rather John and (Y/N). He didn't dislike them, I knew that. But, if anything, he seemed more... focused, on them, than he used to be. When he wasn't working in his office or with Laf and I, his social media was open. Neither Laf or me had any idea what sparked the change.

"Perhaps it is the.. petit bébé?" Laf suggested. (Little baby?)

Alex was at his work for the next couple hours, and Laf and I were at my shop.

I shrugged. "That's my guess. He's seemed ridiculously different towards them since we found out."

"But it's been... six mois depuis?" (Six months since?)

"Yeah. It's just... weird," I responded.

"Oui. I 'ate to admit it, but 'is words are... oddly... convaincant." (Convincing.)

I looked over at Laf. "What makes you say that?"

He thought a moment. "Well... I don't think what Alex is doing is the... best idea.. and the ideas 'e's coming up with aren't any better. It's just.. 'e 'as this way with words that makes you want to go along with it."

A sigh escaped my lips. "I know. I'm afraid if he keeps this up, we're gonna start acting like him."

Laf shrugged. "Who knows. We can only 'ope not."

My eyes scanned the picture over and over again. From the looks of it, John was leaning against what I guessed was their bed frame. (Y/N) seemed to be asleep against his chest, and their dog—Bowie?—was curled up next to them.

There was a buzzing of thoughts in my head. My mind could only seem to think back to the child. Well, unborn child.

John and (Y/N)'s baby could lead to two things. They'd either be the final piece that tore up or chances, or what actually fulfilled our chances. But I thought I could say I knew John and (Y/N) pretty well—they wouldn't want us near their baby.

With a frustrated sigh, I turned my phone off and set it down face down next to my open laptop. Eyes flicking back up, I was met with the half finished report for Washington. 'Better get that finished..'

I started typing again, trying to push away the haze of thoughts creeping to the front of my mind.

'What're you going to do, huh? They seem to be just fine without you guys. Why not just give up while you're already behind?'

I paused a moment, taking in my own thoughts. "But... we're not far behind yet..."

My mind was already away from the assignment, piecing together things in my head. I thought until it was like flipping a light switch: I had a grasp on an answer.

"That's... that's it!" I spoke aloud, standing up out of my chair. "Laf! Herc!"

I turned, rushing towards my office door. We'd finally have something in mind. All we'd have to do is wait.

John's POV

(Y/N) and I finally called it a day. We had been out most the day looking at more baby items, and spent the rest finally starting the nursery. When the evening rolled in, we dropped everything for the day.

Even with the extra energy from the pregnancy, my wife still crashed pretty quickly. (Y/N) was up and active all day, and I just hoped she didn't overdo herself.

The second movie we had been watching was wrapping up, but (Y/N) was already sound asleep against my chest.

I had propped myself up against the bed frame, arms loosely around (Y/N) and resting on her stomach. I was zoning in and out of actual attention to the movie in front of us.

I looked down at (Y/N)'s bump, which was now more noticeable than previous weeks. You could easily see she was carrying a baby.

"Hi little one.." I spoke quietly after a moment, gently rubbing my wife's stomach.

After a few moments, there was a faint kick, making me smile.

"Just three more months," I mused softly. "Then Mama will bring you into our world.. She's so amazing. Beautiful and talented. Even if she thinks the bump makes her look worse," I chuckled. "If anything, she looks more beautiful. I got lucky. With both her and now you, little one. We're gonna live our best life together. I'll make sure of it."

I tilted my head down, placing a gentle kiss on (Y/N)'s head. Shutting the laptop, I placed it on the bedside table.

Carefully, I moved (Y/N) so she was laying on the bed, flicking the lamp off before sliding down next to her.

My arm draped over her waist, pulling her to my chest. Eventually, I also finally found myself falling asleep.

I hadn't seen it, but (Y/N) was smiling. She had been awake, listening silently to everything. Barely a few moments after me, she fell back asleep.
