Chapter 63:

What if one day you felt as if you couldn't go on? I had felt like that, many times before, but never like this. Knowing that just this small group of horrible people could do this to Peeta and the capitol made me think a lot.

But as selfish as it was, the only thing I cared about was Peeta. I had been waiting for the doctor to come out and tell me that everything was alright, but minutes turned to hours, and it was soon nightfall. Nurses had attended to my wounds and then led me out to the waiting room, where Prim was waiting. "Any news?" I asked. She looked behind me and her expression brightened. I spun around to see the doctor heading our way. "I'm afraid I have some bad news," she said. I looked at the doctor closely and my heart stopped. "What happened?"

"Mr. Mellark has fallen into a comma.. We don't know when he will wake up," the doctor said in a somber tone. Before I could answer back she spoke again, "But if he does wake up... The injuries will take a long time to heal. He is at a very fragile state, we will be as careful as possible," I felt as if my world shattered into a million pieces. "Can I see him?" my voice broke in mid sentence. The doctor thought for a while and then nodded slowly. "Just be careful," I followed her to where Peeta was. She then closed the door to leave Peeta and I alone. "Oh my god," I gasped and tears burned my eyes. I sank to my knees beside the bed and stared at him. Bruises clouded his oddly pale face and cuts ran along his arms. "Peeta? It's me Katniss," I whispered and took his hand in mine very carefully, as if he would shatter at my touch. "Why not me?" I asked myself. Tears were already streaming down my face. "Please wake up... I want you back... I-" I paused because it had gotten very hard to speak. My voice was beginning to fade. "I don't know if you can hear me... But I love you. I love you more than anything, and I know you love me as well," I squeaked and was not aware my grip had tightened on his hand. "I will be broken beyond repair if you die," I recalled back to when we were in the Quarter Quell, and I wanted Peeta to survive, not me. I sighed a shaky breath and rested my head next to him. "Stay with me," I whispered, but of course there was no response... So I answered for him,

"Always,"
