Chapter 38:

I am really excited for Peeta to come back home today. I could barely sleep last night because of it. I heard a knock on the door I opened it to find Gale with Peeta. "Thanks." I tell Gale. I bring in Peeta and he sits down. I sit next to him. "You feeling better?" I ask. He nods. "So we have an interview with Caesar next week?" He asks. "Yep." I say.

.......

I am wearing a short yellow dress and my hair is down. I impatiently wait for Caesar to call us out. "And here we have Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark!" I walk out and wave to the loud cheering crowd. I take the seat next to Caesar. Peeta sits next to me. "So I heard about what happened. How does it feel with all this weight finally off your shoulders?" He asks. "Well it really feels great to have gotten rid of her but right now I'm just worried for Peeta." I say. "Oh right. How are you doing Peeta?" "Feeling better, thanks for asking." "Enough about this, so what are you guys planning on doing now that you're married?" I gulp down. "I'm not really sure though." I say. Peeta stays silent. I know what he wants. But I can't give it to him. I clear my throat. "We have something to give you Katniss." Caesar says. I narrow my eyes to him. "And what is that?" Caesar looks at Peeta. Peeta reaches in his pocket and takes out a small box. "This is from all the districts." He says. "They gave it to me in the capitol. But after what happened, I forgot to give it to you." Peeta puts the box in my hands. I stare at it for a moment. What could it be? I slowly opened it and inside was a folded paper and a bracelet. "Read the letter first." Caesar commanded. "Do I read it out loud?" I ask. "If you want." I unfold the paper and start reading. It said:

Dear Katniss,

You are our mockingjay. Our last hope. We just want you to know that we want you to stay strong. No matter what happens, to us, or to you, the rebellion must go on. We love you.

You ignited a spark and we all have caught fire. The capitol must go down. You are the girl on fire.

The mockingjay.

Long live the rebellion!

Love,

The districts

I stayed quite after reading this. I wanted to cry remembering what happened. I sniffed and looked up. I smile. I took out the bracelet and engraved in it were the words "Long live the rebellion". I put it on. I took three of my fingers and brought it to my lips, and then I put my hand in the air. The whole crowd copied my move and I had a feeling the districts watching may be doing the same.
