Man Up

Pumasok ako sa loob ng restaurant. I felt like a stubborn protagonist who entered a portal that was not meant to be entered. Para akong kumain ng pinagbabawal na prutas. Alam kong hindi dapat, pero ginawa ko pa rin.

Ngunit lahat ng paglabag ay parte ng kwento. Ito ay isang game changer; dinadala nito ang bida sa ibang dimensyon— dimensyong magmumulat sa kaniya na hindi lang ang pananaw niya ang tama.

"King." Pagbigkas ko sa kaniyang pangalan.

"Paige?"

The look on his face was understandable. He came for Henry and yet I was the one who showed up.

"Can I sit?" Sabi ko sa kaniya.

"Oo naman." Tumayo pa siya para ipaghila ako ng upuan.

Umupo naman ako at may lumapit na waiter sa amin.

"I haven't had any proper meal so allow me to have my lunch." Sabi ko kay King. Hindi ko siya pinasagot. Actually hindi naman din kasi ako nagpapaalam. I just went on and ordered something. "Ikaw?" Baling ko sa kaniya matapos umorder.

"Kung ano ang sayo." Sagot lamang niya. The waiter understood and left us.

"Curious ako as to why you are here pero ako na muna ang magkukwento kung bakit ako nandito." Saad ko. Nakinig lamang siya.

"Sinundan ko si Henry because I wanted to reconcile with him. Ang problema, he doesn't see it that way. To him, I just came to mess with him. Kanina pa siya masungit sa akin. And then I found out that Denzel, his TOTGA, is getting married." I continued.

"TOTGA?"

"The One That Got Away." I replied. He nodded as if saying "ah okay."

"So you mean you're chasing a man who is still in love with another woman?" King queried.

Napaisip ako sa sinabi niya. Am I chasing Henry? I doubt that's the right term.

"I'm here to make amends. Pero pakiramdam ko, dahil nga ikakasal na si Denzel ay masungit si Henry." Sabi ko.

"But this act of chasing... is this your way of showing your resolve that you're not gonna run away anymore?" King asked.

"It's more like making up for the times I ran away before. Bumabawi ako. Parang ganoon." Sagot ko.

He nodded.

"So for a Paige Alexana Guzman to chase a man, siguro naman itong lalaki na ito ay nagsabing mahal ka niya? Otherwise you wouldn't have gone so far as to chase him here."

Napangiti ako ng mapakla.

"Now that I think about it, I don't think he ever said it that way." I replied. "He just showed it, and said it in another form."

"Like?"

"Sakin nalang 'yun." Sagot ko kay King. Bakit kailangan ko pang i-share sa kaniya yun?

"Basically, hindi pa talaga niya sinabing mahal ka niya." King concluded. What's his point?!

"What if I say that I felt it, even when he never said it?" I replied.

"Then that's something only the two of you can understand." He said. "Wala na akong magagawa. Anyway, the reason why I'm here is because I want to be the bigger person. I got a call from your Dad but don't take it the wrong way. I'm not doing this because your Dad asked me to. I was planning to do this bago pa man siya tumawag."
