Better Together

I drove like crazy.

It was the first time I sped up beyond limit but I had no regrets.

Nagulat si Trench noong nakita niya akong papasok sa bahay nila, pero hindi niya na ako nakwestyon dahil kitang kita niya ang ekspresyon sa aking mukha.

He wouldn't dare.

"Jen." Wika ko noong natanaw ko na siya.

"Sa kwarto tayo." Aniya.

She led me to Trench's room and I locked the door behind me.

"Spill." Sabi ko. "Ayaw ko na ng paligoy ligoy. Tell me the truth."

"The rest of the story is in here." She said, and I was surprised when she took out the planner from under the pillow.

Yes. That same planner.

"Bakit nasayo 'yan?" Tanong ko. "Nasa study namin 'yan kailan lang."

"Henry took it. Binigay niya sa akin for safekeeping. He strictly told me not to give it to you. Kutob niya ay nakita mo ito pero alam niyang hindi mo pa nababasa, dahil pilit mo pa rin siyang tinatanong."

"Why am I not supposed to read it?" I asked. "And how did it even end up inside our house?"

"Sinadya niyang tinago doon and you were only supposed to know about it when he's gone." Jenna looked down. "Request niya talaga yun kaya hindi ko masabi sayo."

"What do you mean gone?! Where would he..." Napatigil ako noong narealize ko. He's not referring to a faraway place in this world. He's referring to the other world.

I washed my face with my hands.

"Shit. Ano ba? Bakit niyo ba ako ginaganito!" Mangiyak ngiyak kong sabi.

"I'm sorry, Paige." She apologized.

"Kailan niya nailagay sa bahay yung planner? Nakita ko na yan bago pa man siya dumating sa bahay."

"I think he left it there noon pa. The last time he was here in Buenos."

"Judging from how he did everything to hide this from me, siguro inis na inis siya dahil nabulilyaso ko ang plano niya noong nahanap ko ang planner." I theorized.

Gusto ko ng maghysterical, sa totoo lang. Masyado ng absurd ang mga nangyayari.

"He just wanted to protect you." Jenna said. "Ayaw niyang masaktan ka."

"Responsibilidad niyang magsabi ng totoo, Jen. Problema ko na 'yun kung masasaktan ako o hindi!"

"I know. Pero ito ang sabi niya: if he can save you from pain, kahit konti, even if it means hiding the truth from you, gagawin niya."

"That's bullshit!" I cussed. Ganyan din ang sinabi niya sa akin kagabi!

Kukunin ko na sana ang planner mula kay Jenna ngunit biglang nag ring ang phone niya at sinagot niya ito kaagad.

"Hello? Oo ako nga." Sabi niya sa kausap. "What?! Where?!"

Napatingin siya sa akin. Bakas sa mga mata niya ang pag-aalala.

"Alright. Salamat. Papunta na kami." She told the caller and then the call ended.

"Anong nangyari?" Tanong ko.

"Nasa building niyo si Henry." She replied. "He's been there for hours! He's in pain, Paige. He's in pain." Napaluha si Jenna.

Napaupo ako sa kama. Nakakapanghina. Has he been in pain for a very long time at hindi ko man lang iyon napansin?
