She stared in his eyes, she didn't look scared. He didn't understand, she was just told he was supposed to kill her and he could find one ounce of fear in her eyes. She sat up in the seat still holding on to his gaze. Her breath was heavy but steady. For some reason she didn't want to believe that he could kill her. She wanted to believe with everything in her that he was good. That he was her hero, the man who would protect her. Some part of her knew that's who he was. She knew nothing about this man, and yet she needed to believe he would protect her.

"You're lucky Carson was the one who was put on the hit." Tyler said interrupting their private intimate moment.

She looked in Tyler's direction tarring her eyes away from Carson.

"Really, cause the throb in my head says otherwise." She said holding the side of her head where Carson hit her.

Carson frowned. He wished he could hold her, kiss her hair. Show her how sorry he was. He jerked his self forward looking out the wind shield. He didn't understand or want these feelings toward her. He knew he was the last person who was capable of mating. He had way too many secrets not even the most understanding person would understand. He had to keep his distance from her. Plus she didn't even want him, she had a boyfriend.

"Look, Carson saved your life. I think you can be a little more respectful. If it would have been anyone else you would be dead right now." Tyler said taking up for Carson.

"I'm sorry." She said.

Tyler nodded.

"If he is Carson, what's your name?" She asked.

Tyler gave Riley a toothy smile.

"I'm Tyler Skye, at your service." He said.

She gave a weak smile back.

"Riley Starr." She said meekly.

Carson couldn't help but think her name was lovely. He could imagine how sweet it would taste on his tongue, if he were to say it. A shy smile pulled at the corner of his lips at the thought.

"Carson Hunter." Carson said hoarsely.

The rest of the ride was silent until they pulled into a small hotel. They were going to stay the night here and try to figure out their next move in the morning. Tyler went to check in, while Carson sat in the car to watch Riley make sure she didn't try to run. She wasn't really being held captive, but for her safety she needed to stay with them.

"So, what will happen to you since you didn't do your job?" She asked shuddering.

Carson stared ahead, not able to look at her.

"You don't want to know." He said quietly.

She frowned.

"Why did you not kill me?" She asked.

He shrugged.

"It's a long story." He said.

Riley chuckled.

"Well, I have nothing but time." She said shifting on the seat.

"Look, just be happy you're not dead. Alright?" Cade said sternly.
