Chapter 21: Masquerade At Midnight.

POV: Riley.

Today was the day of the party. They estate had been a mad house today. There were planners and maids running everywhere getting the house ready. Mrs. Hunter had dropped off my costume and a mask and a wig. She said it might be fun to change my hair color for a night. I felt lonely exploring the estate by myself. Arianna has yet to come find me, and Mrs. Hunter made it clear me and Carson were to stay away from one another until the party. I sighed I wondered where Aidan was. I suppose I was alone for now. I walked down a hallway and seen a spiral staircase. I walked up the stairs to what looked like a attic. It smelled like dust and moth balls. Boxes were everywhere, and trunks. I was curious. I opened up a random box. There was a picture on the top, it was a picture of a man and a women. I ran my fingers over it to brush off the dust. The man looked exactly like Carson. It was in black and white and looked like it was from like the 1800’s.  I read the caption.

Master Gregory Hunter, and Lady Beth Hunter

I smiled. It must have been some relatives of his. I sat it down gently and continued to go through the box. There was tons of pictures of this couple. They had twin sons. I couldn’t help but run my hand over my stomach. I wonder what it would be like to carry Carson’s baby. I smiled, I’m sure it would be wonderful. I turned around hearing someone coming up the stairs. I smiled to see it was Carson.

He smiled.

“What are you doing up here?” He asked.

I ran over and wrapped my arms around his neck. He hissed and carried me further into the attic.

“Shhh mom is coming. If she catches us together she will skin us alive!” He whispered.

I tensed and nodded.

“Here hide here.” He said ushering me to a chest.

I looked at him like he was nuts.

“You get in there!” I protested.

He rolled his eyes.

“Come on hurry! Mom sent me up here to find the family crest. She will kill me.” He groaned.

I giggled and nodded. I carefully climbed in the chest and he shut it gently.

“Hey mom.” He said.

I could here her foot steps on the wood.

“Did you find the family crest yet?” She asked.

I peeped through the key hole at them. He shook his head and opened a box to pretend he was looking.

“It should be up here somewhere! I have to keep you busy, keep you from trying to find way to go meet Riley.” She said glaring at him.

He grinned. If only she knew. I laughed quietly to myself.

She looked over in the direction of the chest I was hiding in. I quickly stopped.

“What is in that chest?” Mrs. Hunter asked.

Carson looked around.

“What chest?” He asked playing dumb.

“That one.” She pointed.
