Chapter 39- The Much Awaited Talk

Gab's POV

I didn't expect her to talk to me after what I did. I just sang because the songs can reach her. I am really sorry, but I can't erase it.

Pinatawag ako ni Tito Red kinabukasan sa Admin Building.

"Sir..." I greeted him pagpasok ko sa office nya. Nandito pati si Ace at Tito Kyle.
"Upo ka Gab." Sabi ni Tito Red. "This is not about last night so you can relax."
Napabungtong hininga ako. Tito Kyle chuckled and slapped my shoulder. Binigay niya sa akin ang isang folder. I opened it and saw people stranded. Women and children looking distressed.

"They are the Rohingya Refugees." Tito Red said.
"From Myanmar..." I said. Tumango sila.
"Nasa border pa rin ng Bangladesh at Myanmar ang karamihan sa kanila. But there are reports namerong ISIS na nakahalo sa mga refugees. We need you to investigate." Tito Red said.
Tumango ako. "Kailan po ang alis ko?"
"Bukas Gab." Sagot ni Tito Ace.
"Kailangan ko po ng Shadow." Natingin ako kay Tito Kyle. "Xykie is very good at that Tito."
Napailing ito. "Sam is not happy with that. I can understand Xykie, but Sam is different issue."
"I understand Tito." Tumayo ako dala ang folder.

"Gab." Tawag sa akin ni Tito Red. Napahinto ako sa pagtalikod.
"Sir."
"Mag-usap kayo ni Cailee bago ka umalis." Sabi nito.
"Sir?"
"You heard me... Now go." Walang kangitingiti si Tito Red.

Napailingako. Kakaiba talaga.

Bumalik ako sa condo at inayos ang mga dadalin kong gamit para bukas. I was about to finish my packing when I heard the doorbell. Binuksan ko ang pintuan ng masilip ko si Cailee na nakatayo.

She looks beautiful. Her hair is in braids, she's wearing skinny jeans, white shirt and white sneakers.

"Hi." Bati niya. "Can I come in? Can we talk?"
Natulala ako kay Cailee. Unti-unting nawala ang ngiti nya ng hindi ako tuminag.
"Ah... sure... Tuloy ka." Binuksan ko ng maluwag ang pintuan para makapasok siya.
Napatingin siya sa bag na nasa sahig.
"Are you leaving?" Tanong nito. She looked...hurt.
"For a couple of days... babalik din ako. Upo ka Cailee. Do you want juice? Or coffee?"
Umiling siya saka umupo. "I'm fine." Huminga sila ng malalim. Kinakabahan siya.
"I just want to talk to you."
Tumango ako. My heart is beating fast. Kalmado ako sa laban pero kabado ako pagdating kay Cailee.

"Gab, ano ba talaga ang nangyari?" Tanong niya. Nakakunot ang noo nito.
"I don't know where to start."
"Then start with why did you leave...me?"
"I joined the Navy." I reply. Hindi kumibo si Cailee. Hinihintay na magsalita ako.
Huminga ako ng malalim.
"I was feeling insecure before because of my father. My real father. He kidnapped me before..."
"Natatandaan ko na meron nga nangyaring ganun dati." Tumango-tango si Cailee.
"He tried to kill me and sell my organs. He tried to blackmail Uncle Kian for his NASCAR trophy because of its value. Pero hindi niya ako balak buhayin pagkakuha niya ng ransom." Tumango si Cailee. Encouraging me to continue.

"The day I beat up Denver, pinamukha niya sa akin na wala akong ipagmamalaki sayo. Na nasa taas ka at ako, walang kwenta dahil sa tunay kong ama. So I decided na umalis. Kaya ako pumuntang America."

"Yung mga sinabi mo noong debut ko, alin doon ang mga totoo?" Tanong ni Cailee.
"Totoong aalis ako." I replied.
"Hindi totoo ang mga sinabi ko dati Cailee. Gusto ko lang maging madali sayo ang paglimot sa akin."
She smiled bitterly.
"I loved you... I want you to have a life. Dahil hindi ko alam kung babalik pa ako. I joined the Navy." I explained to her.

"For seven years, akala ko kasalanan ko kaya ka umalis." She said. Pinipigilan niyang umiyak.
"Akala ko nagsawa ka na dahil baka clingy ako or selosa. Or dahil nasa Spain ako kaya nahirapan ka. Kaya ko piniling umuwi at mag-aral dito para makasama ka. I replayed over and over the things that you said to me on my debut... Sabi mo may iba ka na... At sa tuwing birthday ko, instead, to celebrate it, nagtutulog nalang ako para hindi ko maisip na may iba ka na. Bakit hindi mo sinabi sa akin Gab?"

"I'm sorry Cailee." I tried to reach her but she flinched.
"If only I can turn back... hindi ko sasabihin sayo ang mga sinabi ko." I sincerely told her.
"There is no other woman."

Pinunasan ni Cailee ang mga luha na pumatak sa kanya.

"Thank you for telling me. But i know, you know now that you are not your real father. You are more than that." I nod to her. Yes, I know that now.
Tumayo si Cailee. Gusto ko siyang yakapin.

"Alis na ako para makapag-empake ka pa."

Pinigilan ko siyang umalis. Hinawakan ko si Cailee sa magkabilang balikat. I press my forehead on hers.
"I still love you Cailee. Please, please give me a chance."

Lumayo si Cailee at ngumiti ng malungkot.

"You have to prove it Gab. Ingat ka kung saan ka man pupunta."
"It's a mission. I will tell you something about me pagbalik ko. Will you be here?"
She shrugged. "I don't know. But keep in touch kahit sa mga kaibigan mo. Huwag kang parang multo na nawawala."
Kinuha ko ang spiderman pendant na binato niya sa akin the other day. I gave it back to her.
"Keep it Cailee. So I know you are safe."
Kumunot ang noo niya. I want to kiss her pero pinigilan ko ang sarili ko.
"Kaya kita nahanap sa France because of that. Please always wear it."
She rolled her eyes. "Transmitter." She murmured, but kept the pendant.

"I'll see you when I see you Gab." Tumango si Cailee sa akin. I hugged her dahil hindi ko matiis.
"I love you Cailee." I said to her.
