In this episode I am going to give you an update on how I am working, share some great videos on finishing the mix and talk about social media. Mostly  I am just going to get my stuff done, so I'll keep this as short as possible.

Finishing the mix

It's like getting a licence: As I start to finish the mix of each track before mastering, I remember when I was learning how to drive. There came a time when Hasse, an older gentleman and friend, who was helping me regularly with free private lessons told me to go faster and be more aggressive in my driving. That pretty much sums up where I am now. I am getting better all the time but I can't wait until I grasp everything in order to release this first album. It has already taken me years in the making but the music is timeless and I am eager to get this stuff out. I need to become more aggressive in my editing and "go for it".

Being more aggressive means stop "fuddy duttying" in details.

A year after the album release or less I'm sure that I would have done things differently so I should just do it as well as I can now and stop being afraid of not being good enough in the music industry. After all the learning process is a part of my story.

It is easy to fall into one of two ditches at this time: either rush to get it done and be sloppy just to get it done asap - that's a pitfall I want to avoid. The other is being so afraid to make mistakes that I never get done. It all comes back to the project management triangle:

It is impossible to get this done fast + well + cheap at the same time

It is impossible to get this done fast + well + cheap at the same time. I have no income so getting this done cheaply is a must. I can get it done well if I take time. It is the slow + quality I am aiming for. That's a bummer because in our age of instant gratification, every singer/songwriter is supposed to dish out new and exciting content like breakfast bacon. A quick fry and you've got a hit. I can't possibly do that.

But I can do the "impossible"  I can do great music without a budget and take my time doing it well because my husband believes in me and my music. And he doesn't care how long it takes. He is my biggest fan, btw. We sing my songs every evening in our living room. New songs are coming all the time. We are having fun. So, I feel sorry for all those who have to wait but I'm going to make sure that when I finally drop the album you will be blessed!

Getting it done  Pretty much everything I am doing with the various tracks of the Change My Mind album, and all the videos that I am watching recently, have to do with finishing the mix. I want to send the album for mastering asap. Before that can happen it has to sound it's best and, if you have been following this blog, you know that that entails many different gates: getting rid of pop sounds, making sure all the vocals are tight, getting rid of breath sounds and fixing timing issues on the instruments... and much more.

The wait: I think people who consume music don't have a clue as to just how much time this editing process takes if you are doing almost everything on your own. I can name a whole list of people who have dropped off following my feed as they thought that I would release this album a year ago. I understand them. Next time around I am not going to say that I plan to release an album I'll just do it. AND, next time it will be releasing singles not an album, AND things will go faster, AND now I know how to do it. Going through this process the first time - learning while making everything is the real test. I am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel and I am head bopping more and more as I go. This album is going to be awesome.
