Chapter 1: Senior Math and Cold Pizzas

I could feel the disappointment radiating from the paper.

I groaned. Another D? Ugh, my mom's gonna kill me.

"Miss Pierce," Said my math teacher Mr. Holland, disrupting me from my train of thought. "Could I trouble you for a few minutes after class? There's something I would like to discuss with you."

Crap. "Sure, Mr. Holland." I replied gingerly.

"So how'd you do?" Asked Nova, a senior flyer on the cheerleading team. "I bet you did better than me. Coach is going to give me hell."

I managed a weak smile that I only hoped was somewhat believable, "Yeah, this wasn't my best test either. Hopefully I can still pull up my average."

Nova gave me a warm smile and squeezed my arm, "Don't worry about it, babe! You're a great cheerleader, Coach will overlook it!" I couldn't help but smile back, Nova was my favourite senior on the team, and I was going to miss her next year.

As the bell rung through the chatter of the class room, Nova collected her stuff and got ready to leave, "See you at 3:30!" She said before quickly rushing to her next class. I beamed at her and waited for everyone else to clear out the classroom. Hopefully Mr. H will go easy on me.

"You wanted to talk to me, Mr. H?" I asked.

He sighed, "Scarlett, I know it hasn't been easy balancing school and cheerleading,"

I readied my tongue with an argument telling him how I'll work harder and study more when he rose his hand, silencing me.

"And, I know that a Junior taking a senior math class has to be challenging, however I think you have great potential and I think that you just need a little help."

I nodded gingerly, this class sure hasn't been easy. Some of the things Mr. H was teaching hadn't even been covered by my previous teachers. It was exciting at first to switch from AP junior math to Standard senior math, however, now it seems like a bad idea considering it was bringing down my overall average.

"So," Mr. H said, pulling out a yellow note pad, "I highly recommend a tutor for you since your grades have been slipping below average ever since November. Would you like me to find one for you?"

"Yes, please Mr. H. That would be great." I replied, relieved.

"Wonderful, after school today, meet your tutor in the library, 3:30 sharp." Said Mr. Holland as he collected his things and moved out the classroom door.

"Great," I muttered, collecting the rest of my things. "I get to miss yet another cheer practice, Ariana's surely gonna kick me off now."

I moped sadly to my locker, still depressed about getting another D when my best friend Betsi walked up to me, and said, "Damn girl, who died?"

I couldn't help but offer the slightest smile at that. Betsi always knew what I was thinking and feeling. We've been inseparable ever since grade 5 when she came to Monterrey Preparatory. She's British, the same height as me with blue eyes with little green speckles that looked like orbs, and blond hair that she dyed black. She's our school's star singer/actress, I swear, she could play both parts of Romeo and Juliet by herself.

"Nothing really, I just got another D in math, Holland's making me get a math tutor." I replied.

"That sucks, but on the bright side, I heard the Cafeteria's serving yesterday's cold pizza. Yum." said Betsi enthusiastically with a heavy coat of sarcasm as she dragged me towards the Caf.

As we entered the caf I looked around for my boyfriend, Cole. Only to spot him at our usual table, with a bunch of girls around him, but he looked uninterested. His eyes landed on me and said something to the girls with a smirk on his face that made all the girls giggle and walk away.

"Hey there, Gorgeous,"

"Thanks for saving me a seat," I said and gave Cole a quick peck on the lips. Seeing him instantly made me feel better.

Cole put his arm over me, "Anything for you, Scar."

I snuggled in and thought to myself, I love you Cole Martins. I will always love you.
