Draco’s POV

I couldn’t help but smile as I made my way over to Potions. I hadn’t seen Courtney since we watched the sun rise together. It really was the most perfect morning of my life. I definitely wasn’t lying about that. She wasn’t like the other girls that I had been out with. She was fun. She was…real. She was everything that I wanted, just never thought I could have.

“What’s on your mind, Draco?” Blaise asked, taking a seat beside me.

I sighed. “What do you think love is?”

“Starting out heavy today, are we?” He laughed, but then stopped when he realized the look on my face. “You’re serious?”

I nodded. “Dead serious,” I sighed.

“Well, you’re looking at the wrong guy. I’ve never…” he trailed off though as his eyes wondered over to the door.

When I looked, the whole world seemed to stop. There was Courtney walking through the door of the classroom looking beautiful in her Gryffindor robes and her hair up in pony-tail. She had on no make-up, but she was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. Her beautiful blue eyes met mine and her face was made even more beautiful with her smile.

“Isn’t she beautiful?” Blaise breathed beside me.

“She is the most…” I looked over at him and realized that we weren’t talking about the same girl.

He was talking about Kamrynn Diggory, Courtney’s best friend. She had walked in behind her, and I didn’t realize that until I had focused on something else instead of Courtney. My eyes then found Courtney again as she took her usual seat by Weasel. I still couldn’t believe that he actually agreed to go out with Lavender. Who would, seriously?

“Hey, guys,” Kamrynn said, smirking at me. “What’s new?”

Oh, no. She knew. Courtney told her everything and now everyone was going to know that I liked a Gryffindor. Wait…I didn’t mean that. Sure, everyone would ridicule me for it, namely Slytherins, but I didn’t care. I’ve waited a long time for this, but…You know, what? I couldn’t let it happen. What if someone found out? What if…no.

As Slughorn started the bloody class, I made the decision not to continue things with Courtney. It would be too risky. I couldn’t let that happen. I justified it by telling myself that I would be saving her a lot of heartache. It would be better if an ‘us’ never existed…

“Why haven’t I seen any work from the two of you in the past three weeks?” Professor Binns asked us, Courtney and I that is, when he asked us to stay after class. “I told you that I would assign an extra assignment for the two of you to partake in if I didn’t see any work that both of you had worked on.”

He knew that Courtney had done our last assignment by herself because I had stormed off after she wouldn’t kiss me. I wished that I hadn’t walked away from her. I was just embarrassed. She probably had a good reason for it, but I didn’t want to hear it. I mean, she asked to be in Gryffindor. She asked to be separated from me, making it impossible for us to be together.

“Now, I want you two to have the paper ready to be turned in before Christmas just like everyone else. I also want you to work together over the Christmas break on a topic of your choosing. It has to be on the subject of History, and it has to be ready to present on the first day back from the holiday-“

“But that’s ridiculous. Some of us have more important things to work on than a damn history assignment,” I interrupted him, but I didn’t care. It was the truth. He was just giving us busy work, and some of us really did have more important things to worry about.

“Mr. Malfoy, you will turn in this assignment if you care about your grade in this class. I’m sure your parents do care about those,” he replied back. “As I was saying, you will have that project done and ready to present to the class on the first day back.”

“But-“

“We will have it finished,” Courtney pinched me in the side to shut me up. “Don’t worry.”

“I shouldn’t have to. You are dismissed,” he waved has hand as if he was fed up with us, which he probably was.

I, for one, was glad that he dismissed us. I wasn’t glad that he had added another assignment, but it was kind of my fault. I had made it a habit to stir clear of Courtney for the past three weeks. It was November already and I hadn’t spent any time doing anything that was of remote importance, unless you count having a girl you can’t have on your mind constantly. I mean, I could have her if I wanted, which I did, but not if I wanted everyone finding out.

But I so wanted her.

I wanted her more than I had wanted any other girl. I had never felt like this before, and I admit, I was a little scared. It wasn’t like me to be scared though. Love was just a game. A game that I knew how to play very well without getting sucked in too deeply. It wasn’t about to change either. I was going to win this little game of tug of war. No matter how I felt.

“Draco, wait up,” she called after me out in the hall as I started in the direction of the Dungeons. “Do you want to get an early start on our,” she cleared her throat, “history paper?”

I turned and saw her leaning up against the wall. Man, did I want her. She was wearing skinny jeans that defined her every curve with a clingy top that did just the same. She made it so hard to say no. I really wanted to say yes. So, that’s exactly what I said.

“Come on,” I took her hand. “I know just the place.”

I took her to the Room of Requirement, where I spent most of my time lately. Instead of turning it into the room that I usually worked in, I asked for a bedroom. It might’ve been moving a bit too fast, but hey, what can I say? It’s not like a girl has ever said no to me before.

“Wow,” she said, taking it all in and turning back to me. “Moving a little fast, are we?”

I shrugged. “Is this not what you wanted?” I slowly approached her.

She started back up, as if I made her nervous. She fell back onto the bed, exactly where I was steering her. “You know, we don’t have to do anything. We could just talk like we did up in the astronomy tower.”

I shook my head. “I don’t want to talk right now. I want you, Courtney.” I then paused for a moment with a realization. “You’re a virgin, aren’t you?”

“What?” she asked like she hadn’t heard me.

I smirked. “You are a virgin.”

“So, does that matter?” she stuttered.

I shrugged. “Doesn’t really matter. Not to me anyway.”

“Shouldn’t we talk about this first?” she asked as I started to crawl on top of her. “I mean, shouldn’t every couple have the sex talk before they just do it?”

I smirked once again. “Well, of course. You don’t tell anyone that we were here tonight, and I won’t regret this.”

“You mean, keep it a secret?” she looked at me in disbelief.

I nodded. “Yeah, it can be our little secret. Don’t even tell Kamrynn. She’s especially off limits. No one can know about us. Okay?”

It felt wrong that I was doing this too her, but I had to continue on. No one could find out about us. Absolutely no one. I would be ruined for sure. She would be heartbroken. It just wouldn’t be worth it.

“Okay, on condition,” she smirked as well. “Try not to become too emotionally attached.”

She could play this game as well as I could. One could have respect for someone with as much game as me, and trust me, that hardly ever happened. She was good.

“As long as you don’t fall in love with me,” I retorted before pressing my lips onto hers.
