Chapter 13

I entered Celeste's suite with Caden's tiny grip on my hand. Celeste was propped up on pillows on a chaise lounge with a blanket covering her legs and an ensemble of dishes on the table in front of her. Caden let go of my hand as soon as he spotted his mother, rushing to her side leaving me tired and slump against the door.

"Mommy!"

Celeste encircled her son into her arms giving him little kisses on his face. "Hey my sweet Caden. Were you good for Eva?"

The little fibber nodded his head before speaking. "Yes." Celeste's eyes immediately rose above his head seeking me out. "Eva you seemed wiped out. I hope Caden wasn't too much for you."

Crossing my fingers behind my back and plastering a smile on my face I lied. "Oh no, he was fine. He is a very active little boy." A light knock forced me away from the door I was using as a prop. I opened it up to a young, girl.

"Yes he is. Hey Tina. Caden go with Tina to eat." Caden hugged Celeste jumping off the lounger and ran towards the teenager.

After the two left, Celeste motions for me to take a seat at a plush arm chair. "Now tell me how it really went."

I dropped into the chair. "I'm exhausted. He loves swimming." We had spent the last three hours at the pool, mostly him jumping in and me jumping in after him when he went into deep water.

"I know he can be hand full. I really appreciate you watching after him. I will be glad when this little one comes out. I feel like I'm going to burst any minute." Celeste glowed with happiness as she pat her stomach.

"I don't know how you do it. I know being human it isn't easy to give birth to wolves." Celeste continued to rub her stomach and then looked up at me before answering.

"It is more taxing on my body. But its worth it, I love my babies."

"That is something I had always feared, being a human mate."

"Yes it can be scary." Celeste agreed.

"Can I ask you a question?"

"Sure."

"How did you know that mating with Colin wouldn't kill you? I mean being a human mate is rare and the chances of surviving is small."

Celeste cocked her head to the side with a thoughtful expression. "Love and faith. I couldn't imagine my life without Colin, so I put my faith in our love and prayed that we will be together."

"Well I don't have to worry about that anymore." I rose up to take my leave. "I am going to take a long, hot bath. I will see you and Caden tomorrow."

"Please get some rest. I only need you to watch Caden in the morning. Colin will be getting him after lunch." Celeste informed me of the schedule change.

Thirty minutes later, I joined the boisterous pack for dinner. I assumed my table in the corner to enjoy my meal in solitude. I glance with surprise as my solitude was interrupted by the clanging of plates on my table. Two new faces sat across from me.

"Hi Eva, I couldn't take it anymore, seeing you eat alone. We were told to give you space, but no one should eat alone." The brunette prattle in one breath, while the brown haired male was rolling his eyes.
